Frigidaire Washing Machine Jumping Around — How To Fix

Is your Frigidaire washing machine jumping around when spinning? If so, look for the following problems…

1. Washing Machine Isn’t Balanced

If your Frigidaire washing machine is jumping around when spinning, the first thing you should check is that the machine is balanced. In order to prevent the machine from jumping around, make sure that the washing machine sits on a firm, even surface.

Also ensure that the legs of the washing are properly balanced. The washer should not rock when moved.

2. Damaged Shock Absorber

Do the following to replace a damaged shock absorber in your Frigidaire Affinity front loader washing machine…

Step 1. Unplug your washing machine from its power supply before starting any repairs in order to prevent any chances of electrocution.

Step 2. Remove the screws at the back of your washing machine holding the top panel. Slide the top panel off the washer and set it aside. Pull out the detergent drawer and press the tab inside to fully release it.

Step 3. Use your Philips screwdriver to remove the screws beside the detergent drawer housing and on the two top corners of the control panel. Detach the control panel and set it on top of the cabinet (the wires will still be connected to it).

Step 5. Peel the door seal away from the door opening. Close your washer’s door. Lift the washing machine up a bit and place a wooden block underneath to support it.

Step 7. Depress the tab to release the lower pin using a deep well 6-point 1/2 inch socket. Push the pin out of the shock mount using a pair of pliers. Repeat the process for the upper pin.

Step 8. Pull the old shock absorber out an set it aside. Take your new shock absorber out of its packaging. Position the shock absorber in the tub mount and snap the pin in place. Do the same for the lower pin.

Step 9. Connect the electrical connector back to the door lock and snap the main panel back in place. Apply the screws on the main front panel with a Philips screwdriver to secure it.

Step 10. Remove the support from underneath your washing machine. Fit the door seal back around the door opening. Fit the outer retaining band around the door seal (you may need a flat-blade screwdriver to do this).

Step 11. Snap the control panel back onto the cabinet frame and apply all the screws to secure it. Put the dispenser drawer back in. Slide your washing machine’s top panel back on and apply the screws at the back with a Philips screwdriver.

Step 12. Plug your washing machine back to its power supply and run a spin cycle to see if the issue has been fixed.

Do the following to replace the spin bearing in your Frigidaire top loader washing machine…

Step 1. It is advised that you unplug your washing machine from its power supply before attempting any repairs in order to prevent electrocution. Apply some tape to the lid of your washing machine to secure it.

Step 2. Insert a putty knife under the main top panel of your washing machine to release the two retaining clips. Lift up the main top panel and support it. Use a Philips screwdriver to remove the screws at the bottom of your washing machine’s front panel. Pull the panel off your washing machine and set it aside.

Step 3. Pull the dispenser cover and cup off the agitator assembly and set them aside. Remove the agitator mounting nut using a 1/2 inch socket wrench. Pull the agitator assembly out of your washing machine.

Step 4. Release the tube of the water pressure switch from the retainer on the side of the tub cover. Using a flat-blade screwdriver, pry the tabs on the tub cover to release it. Pull the tub cover off your washing machine and set it aside.

Step 5. Take the trunnion mounting bolts off using a 1/2 inch wrench. Pull the trunnion block out of your washing machine and set it aside. Lift the inner tub assembly out of your washing machine and set it aside.

Step 6. Release the brass ring on the shaft from the gasket by pushing it downwards. Pull the gasket and ring off the drive shaft and set them aside. Remove the screws holding the motor shield to the tub using a Philips screwdriver. Set the shield and capacitor aside.

Step 7. Using a pair of pliers, release the retaining clamp on the hose securing the outlet hose to the tub and slide the clamp out of place. Disconnect the drain outlet hose from the tub (it is advised that you keep a rag nearby in case water spills out).

Step 8. Disconnect the tube of the water pressure switch from the pressure chamber on the side of the outer tub. Use a socket wrench to take out the mounting bolts holding the tub to the base.

Step 9. Pull the outer tub off the drive shaft. Turn the outer tub over and lay it on the floor. Take out the two screws holding the spin bearing using a Philips screwdriver. Pry the old bearing out of the tub using a flat-blade screwdriver.

Step 10. Take your new tub bearing out of its packaging and push it into place inside the tub. Use your Philips screwdriver to apply the two screws to secure the new bearing.

Step 11. Put the outer tub assembly back onto the drive shaft. Secure the tub assembly to the base by applying the mounting bolts. Connect the water pressure switch hose back to the pressure chamber at the side if the tub.

Step 12. Connect the drain outlet hose back to the port underneath the tub. Secure the hose to the tub by sliding the retaining clamp into place.

Step 13. Put the motor shield and capacitor back in place and apply the two screws with your Philips screwdriver to secure. Push the gasket and brass ring unto the shaft. Lower the inner tub onto drive shaft.

Step 14. Put the trunnion block back into position and apply the mounting bolts to secure it. Snap the tub cover back onto the outer tub. Fit the water pressure switch tube into the retainer on the tub cover.

Step 15. Fit the agitator back onto the shaft and apply the bolt to secure it. Put the dispenser cover and cup back in place. Snap your washing machine’s front panel back on and apply the screws at the bottom to secure it.

Step 16. Lower the main top panel of your washing machine and snap it in place. Peel the tape off your washing machine’s lid. Plug your washing machine back to its power supply and run a spin cycle to see if the issue has been fixed.

How To Replace Frigidaire Front Loader Washing Machine Spin Bearing

To replace the spin bearing in your Frigidaire front loader washing machine, here’s what you’ll need to do…

Step 1. It is advised that you turn off your washing machine’s water supply and unplug the power cord before starting any repairs in order to prevent any chances of electrocution.

Step 2. Unscrew the HOT and COLD water inlet hoses from the inlet ports at the back of your washing machine (keep a towel nearby in case water spills out of the hoses).

Step 3. Use a Philips screwdriver to remove all the screws at the back of your washing machine holding the rear panel. Pull the panel off your washing machine and set it aside.

Step 4. Take out the screws holding the top panel of your washing machine. Slide the panel backwards and lift it off your machine.

Step 5. Remove the screws at the front of your washing machine holding the main lower front access panel. Pull the panel off and set it aside. Open the door of your washing machine. Insert a flat-blade screwdriver under the retaining band around the door boot seal and work it around until the entire band comes off.

Step 6. Peel the door seal away from the door opening. Untwist the retaining clamp holding the seal to the inlet port inside your washing machine. Pull the seal away from the water inlet port.

Step 7. Use a Deep Well 6-point 1/2 inch socket to depress the tabs on the upper mounting pins that hold the shock absorbers. Pull the pins out using a pair of pliers. Detach the air chamber from the outer tub using a flat-blade screwdriver.

Step 8. Pull the shock absorbers off the tub. Pull the drive belt off the drive pulley and motor shaft. Disconnect the electrical connector attached to the motor assembly.

Step 9. Use a socket to take out the mounting bolts holding the motor assembly to your washing machine’s tub. Push the motor backwards and lift it out of your washing machine.

Step 10. Release motor electrical connector from the bottom of the tub by cutting the zip-tie. Use a screwdriver to loosen the screw on the band holding the drain outlet hose to the tub. Detach the hose from your washing machine (you should have a rag nearby in case water spills out).

Step 11. Disconnect the vent tube from the top of the outer tub. Use a socket wrench to take out the bolts holding the counter-weight to the tub of the drum. Pull the counter-weight off the drum and set it aside.

Step 12. Use your Philips screwdriver to take out the screws holding the motor control board to the washing machine’s cabinet. Disconnect the motor control board wire harnesses and set the control board aside.

Step 13. Release the spring retaining straps at the top of your washing machine by taking out the screws with a Philips screwdriver. Get someone to help support the tub while you unhook the suspension springs from the bracket.

Step 14. Carefully pull the tub assembly out of your washing machine and detach the suspension springs from it. Lay the tub assembly on its back and take out the bolts holding the two halves together using a 3/8 inch socket wrench.

Step 15. Lift the front half off the outer tub from the tub assembly and set it aside. Turn the tub assembly upside-down. Remove the bolt holding the pulley wheel to the back of the tub using a 9/16 inch socket.

Step 16. Lift the pulley off the rear of the tub. Lift the bottom half of the outer tub off the inner tub assembly. Use a mallet and a screwdriver to carefully knock the inner and outer bearing out of the outer tub’s rear.

Step 17. Take your new bearing kit out of its packaging. Knock the new bearings evenly into the outer tub. Place the outer tub back onto the inner tub. Put the drive pulley back on the rear of the tub and apply the mounting bolt to secure it.

Step 18. Turn the drum assembly the other way around and put the front half back on. Apply all the bolts with your socket wrench to secure it. Hook the suspension springs back onto the outer tub.

Step 19. Carefully lift the drum assembly into your washer’s cabinet and hook the suspension springs to the support brackets. Put the spring retaining straps back on and apply the screws to secure.

Step 20. Connect the venting tube back to the opening on the outer tub. Connect the electrical connectors back to the motor control board. Place the control board back inside the washing machine and secure it by applying the mounting screws.

Step 21. Place the counter-weight back onto the drum and apply the bolts with your socket wrench to secure it. Connect the drain outlet hose back to the opening at the bottom of your washing machine’s tub. Slide the retaining clamp in place to secure it.

Step 22. Hold the motor wires to the bottom of the tub with a zip-tie. Connect the electrical connector back to the motor assembly. Install the drive motor back inside your washing machine and apply the mounting nuts to secure it.

Step 23. Loop the drive belt back around the motor shaft and the pulley wheel. Put the shock absorbers back into the tub mounts and snap the retaining pins into place.

Step 24. Secure the air chamber to the outer tub. Open the door of your washing machine. Fit the door seal into the water inlet port and secure it with the retaining clamp. Fit door boot seal around the door opening and fit the retaining band around it (you may need a flat-blade screwdriver to do this).

Step 25. Close the door of your washing machine. Put the lower front panel of your washing machine back on and apply the two screws with your Philips screwdriver to secure it.

Step 26. Put the top panel of your washing machine back on and use a Philips screwdriver to apply the screws at the back. Snap the rear panel of the machine back in place and secure it by applying the screws.

Step 27. Connect the water inlet hoses back to the inlet ports (make sure to secure the connections properly in order to prevent water leakage). Plug your washing machine back to its power supply and turn the water valve back on. Try running a wash cycle to confirm that everything is working properly.

Do the following to replace the transmission in your Frigidaire laundry center washing machine…

Step 1. In order to prevent any chances of electrocution and water leakage, make sure to unplug your washing machine from its power supply and turn off the water valves before attempting any repairs.

Step 2. Pull your washing machine forwards and use a screwdriver to remove the venting at the back. Unscrew the COLD and HOT water supply hoses from the inlet ports at the back of your washing machine (it is advised that you keep a rag nearby in case water spills out).

Step 3. Pull your washing machine’s drain hose out of your home drain. Insert a putty knife under your washing machine’s main top panel to release the two retaining clips. Disconnect the lid lock electrical connector. Pull the panel off your washing machine and set it aside.

Step 4. Lift your washing machine slightly and place a wooden block underneath the front to support it. Use a Philips screwdriver to remove the screws holding the front panel of your washing machine. Remove the support and lower your washing machine.

Step 6. Pull the main front panel off your washing machine and set it aside. Disconnect the suspension rod springs from the tub. Go to the back of your washing machine and use a 5/16 inch nut driver to remove the nuts holding the control board plate to your machine’s rear panel.

Step 7. Use a flat-blade screwdriver to pry the control assembly out of your washing machine. Disconnect the tub component wire connector from the control board assembly. Unhook the wires from the retaining clips.

Step 8. Push the connector and wires through the opening in the dryer support panel. Put the control board housing back into the machine and snap it in place. Go to the front of your washing machine and take out the nut holding the grounding wire to the cabinet with a 5/16 inch wrench.

Step 9. Tilt your washing machine backwards carefully and lay it on its back. Place a 2 by 4 block of wood underneath the tub to support it. Push each suspension rod up and push the caps back. Rotate the caps and pull them off the suspension rods.

Step 10. Use a pair of pliers to cut the zip-tie holding the pressure switch tube to the suspension front right suspension rod. Pull the four suspension rods out of your washing machine.

Step 11. Use a pair of pliers to release the clamp holding the outlet hose to the drain pump assembly. Disconnect the hose from the washing machine (it is advised that you keep a rag nearby when doing this).

Step 12. Use a pair of pliers to disconnect the pressure hose from the pressure chamber on the side of the tub. Carefully pull the tub through the bottom of your washer’s cabinet (take care not to damage the Out Of Balance lever).

Step 13. Set the tub assembly upright. Release all the tabs holding the tub cover to the tub assembly. Pull the cover off the tub and set it aside. Pull the cap off the agitator.

Step 14. Take out the agitator bolt using a 10mm socket with a long extension. Pull the agitator out of your washing machine and set it aside. Take out the screws holding the tub mounting hub to the transmission shaft using a 6mm Allen key.

Step 15. Lift out the inner tub assembly and set it aside. Turn the outer tub upside-down. Take out the four mounting screws securing the belt cover using a 10mm socket.

Step 16. Pull the belt cover off and set it aside. Detach the drive belt from the pulleys by slowly rotating and pulling it. Detach the electrical connector of the clutch actuator. Take out the two mounting screws using the 10mm socket to release the clutch actuator.

Step 17. Release all the electrical connectors from the transmission plate using a pair of pliers. Use a 3/8 socket, take out the eight bolts holding the transmission plate to the outer tub.

Step 18. Pull the transmission off your washing machine’s outer tub and set it aside. Take your new transmission assembly out of its packaging. Take out the mounting nut holding the drive pulley to the old transmission. Transfer the pulley to the new transmission assembly and apply the mounting bolt to secure it.

Step 19. Put the new transmission assembly onto your washing machine’s outer tub and secure it by applying the eight mounting bolts. Snap the retainers of the electrical connectors in to the holes on the new transmission assembly.

Step 20. Put the clutch actuator back on and apply the mounting bolt to secure it. Connect the electrical connector back to the actuator. Loop the drive belt onto the drive pulley and transmission pulley (make sure that the grooved part of the belt is lined up with the grooves on the drive pulley).

Step 21. Put the belt cover back into place and apply the bolts to secure it. Lift the outer tub assembly upright. Place the inner drum back into the outer one. Secure the inner tub to the transmission shaft using the Allen key.

Step 22. Put the agitator nut in the socket wrench and insert it in place inside the agitator. Put the agitator back inside the drum and apply the bolt to secure it. Put the agitator cap back on.

Step 23. Snap the tub cover in place on the tub assembly. Carefully pull the tub assembly through the bottom of your washing machine’s cabinet. Connect the pressure switch hose back to the chamber at the side of your washing machine’s tub.

Step 24. Connect the outlet hose back to the drain pump assembly and secure it by sliding the retaining clamp in place. Slide all four suspension rods through the holes in the outer tub. Put the rod caps back on and then rotate and snap into position.

Step 25. Secure the pressure tub to the suspension rod using a zip-tie. Take out the 2 by 4 underneath the tub. Lift your washing machine upright. Secure the grounding wire to the cabinet by applying the mounting bolt.

Step 26. Go to the back of your washing machine. Pry the control board plate away from your washer using a flat-blade screwdriver. Pass the tub component electrical connector through the opening in the dryer support panel.

Step 27. Snap the electrical connector to the control board. Secure the electrical connector in the retainers on the control board. Slide the control board housing in place and apply the nuts to secure it.

Step 28. Attach the suspension rod springs to the tub cover. Snap the front panel of your washing machine back on and apply the two screws at the bottom to secure it. Connect the lid lock electrical connector back to the main top panel. Snap the top panel back in place.

Step 29. Insert the drain hose back into your home drain. Connect the two water inlet hoses back to the inlet ports at the back of your washing machine Ensure that the connections are properly secured in order to prevent water leakage.

Step 30. Reconnect the venting to the rear of your washing machine. Plug you washing machine back to its power supply and turn on the water valve. Try running a wash cycle to make sure everything is working properly.

Step 1. In order to prevent any chances of electrocution, it is advised that you unplug your washing machine from its power supply before starting any repairs. Put some tape over the lid of your washing machine to secure it.

Step 2. Insert a putty knife underneath your washing machine’s main top panel to release the two retaining clips. Lift the main top panel up and support it. Take out the screws at the bottom of your washing machine holding the front panel. Pull the panel off your washing machine and set it aside.

Step 3. Reach under the drum and push the idler pulley inwards to release the tension on the belt. Pull the drive belt off the pulleys and set it aside. Pull the dispenser cover and cup off the agitator and set them aside.

Step 4. Take out the agitator bolt using a 1/2 socket wrench. Pull the agitator assembly out of your washing machine. Disconnect the water pressure switch tube from the retainer in the tub cover.

Step 5. Release the tabs holding the tub cover using a flat-blade screwdriver. Pull the cover off the tub and set it aside. Remove the trunnion block mounting bolts using the 1/2 inch socket. Pull the trunnion block off and set it aside.

Step 6. Lift the inner tub out of your washing machine and set it aside. Push the brass ring on the shaft downwards to release it from the gasket. Slide the gasket and ring off the shaft.

Step 7. Use a Philips screwdriver to take out the screws holding the motor shield to the tub. Set the capacitor and shield assembly aside. Use a pair of pliers to press the clamp on the hose connected to the tub and slide the clamp out of place.

Step 8. Disconnect the hose from the washing machine. (you may want to keep a rag nearby in case water leaks out of the hose). Detach the water pressure switch tube from the pressure chamber at the side of the tub.

Step 9. Use a wrench to take out the mounting bolts holding the tub assembly in place. Pull the tub assembly off the shaft and set it aside. Pull off the space on the shaft.

Step 10. Socket to take out the screw holding the transmission pulley. Take the pulley out and set it aside. Take out the bolts securing the transmission bearing block to the mounting plate using a 3/8 inch socket wrench.

Step 11. Pull the transmission out of your washing machine and set it aside. Take your new transmission assembly out of its packaging. Take out the accompanying bolts from the transmission bearing block.

Step 12. Put the new transmission assembly onto the mounting plate inside your washing machine. Put the bolts back in place and apply them with the 3/8 inch socket wrench to secure them the transmission.

Step 13. Depending on where you buy the transmission, you may be provided with a new drive block. If your new transmission assembly doesn’t come with one, transfer the block from the old transmission assembly to it.

Step 14. Put the transmission pulley back in place and apply the bolts to secure it. Put the space onto the new transmission assembly. Put the outer tub onto the drive shaft. Secure the tub by applying the mounting bolts.

Step 15. Connect the water pressure switch tube back to the pressure chamber on the side of the outer tub. Connect the outlet hose back to the port at the bottom of the tub and slide the retaining clamp in place to secure it.

Step 16. Put the capacitor and motor shield back in place and apply the mounting screws to secure them to the tub. Slide the gasket and brass ring onto the shaft and push them firmly into place.

Step 17. Put the inner tub back onto the shaft. Place the trunnion block back in position and apply the mounting bolts to secure it. Snap the tub cover back on. Put the water pressure switch tube back into the retainer at the side of the tub.

Step 18. Place agitator back inside your washing machine and apply the bolt to secure it. Put the dispenser cap and cup back on the agitator. Go to the bottom of your tub and hook the drive belt back around the motor and idler pulleys.

Step 19. Snap your washing machine’s front panel back on and apply the two screws at the bottom to secure it. Lower the main top panel of your washing machine and snap in place.

Step 20. Peel the tape off your washing machine’s lid. Plug your washing machine back to its power supply and run a spin cycle to make sure everything is working properly.
