Front Loaders
The steps below show you how to clean your front loader Maytag washing machine drain pump…
Step 1. In order to prevent electrocution, it is advised that you disconnect your washing machine from the outlet before starting this repair.
Step 2. Loosen the three bolts holding the lower front access panel to the cabinet using a 1/4 inch nut-driver. Lift the panel off the machine and set it aside.
Step 3. Place a container and some rags underneath the pump filter knob. Turn the pump filter knob and take it out (expect a lot of water to come out).
Step 4. Pry the cap off the drain pump assembly, then unplug the wire connector. With a pair of pliers, release the spring clamps holding the two outlet hoses to the pump.
Step 5. Pull each hose off the pump (keep a rag nearby to clean any leaks). With a 1/4 inch socket wrench, take out the bolts holding the drain pump to the bottom of the cabinet.
Step 6. Insert a screwdriver or a pair of needle-nosed pliers into the ports on the pump, then clean out any debris that may have gathered.
Step 7. Once the pump is clean, reinstall it in the cabinet, then tighten the bolt using your nut-driver.
Step 8. Reconnect the two hoses to their appropriate ports on the pump. Use pliers to slide the retaining clamps into place.
Step 9. Put the pump filter back in place. Remount the lower access panel on the cabinet, then use your nut-driver to apply the bolts. Plug your washing machine back into the electrical outlet.

To clean the drain pump in your top loader Maytag washing machine, follow the steps below…
Step 1. Prevent water leakage and electrocution by disconnecting the power cord from the outlet and turning the water faucets off before starting this procedure.
Step 2. Using a pair of pliers, disconnect the COLD and HOT water supply hoses from the ports at the back of the machine (ensure that you keep a rag nearby to clean any leaks).
Step 3. With your pliers, release the retaining clamp holding the drain hose to the port at the back of the machine. Pull the hose off the machine.
Step 4. Place some tape on the lid of your washing machine to help secure it. With someone helping you, tip your washing machine backwards carefully and set it on the floor.
Step 5. Using pliers, release the spring clamps holding the two outlet hoses to the ports on the drain pump. Pull each hose off the pump (some water may spill out, so we recommend keeping a rag nearby).
Step 6. Pry the cap off the drain pump, then unplug the wire connector. Using a nut-driver, loosen the bolts holding the pump assembly to the bottom of the tub.
Step 7. Pull the pump off the tub. Using needle-nosed pliers or a flat-blade screwdriver, clean out the ports of the drain pump assembly.
Step 8. Once the pump has been cleaned, remount it on the tub, then tighten the bolts using your nut-driver.
Step 9. Plug the wire connector back into the drain pump. Reconnect the outlet hoses to the ports on the pump, then slide the retaining clamps into place.
Step 10. Lift your washing machine back onto its feet, then take the tape off the lid. Reconnect the main drain hose to the port at the back of the machine, then use your pliers to slide the retaining clamp into place.
Step 11. Reconnect the COLD and HOT water supply hoses to their corresponding ports at the back of the machine (ensure that the hoses are properly connected in order to prevent water leakage).
Step 12. Turn the water supply taps back on, then plug the power cord into the electrical outlet.

Follow the steps below to clean your Maytag washing machine soap dispenser…
Step 1. Prevent any chances of electrocution or leakage by disconnecting your washing machine from the outlet and turning the water taps off before starting this repair.
Step 2. Go to the back of your washing machine, then loosen the three screws holding the top panel using a 1/4 inch nut-driver. Pull the top panel backwards a few inches, then lift it off the cabinet.
Step 3. Slide the detergent tray out of the housing, then press the tab inside to release it from the housing.
Step 4. Using a Torx screwdriver, loosen the two screws next to the dispenser opening on the control panel.
Step 5. Use a 5/16 inch nut-driver to take out the bolts at the top of the control panel securing the dispenser.
Step 6. Move the dispenser assembly backwards a bit. Using pliers, release the spring clamp holding the outlet hose to the dispenser. Pull the hose off the dispenser assembly.
Step 7. Release the retaining clamps holding the inlet tubes to the ports at the back of the dispenser. Pull the hoses off and set them aside.
Step 8. Take the dispenser assembly out of the cabinet. Take the soap tray to a sink, then clean out any accumulated detergent using a soft brush and running water.
Step 9. Thoroughly clean the dispenser assembly using the brush and running water. Once you’ve cleaned the dispenser, reconnect the inlet tubes to their corresponding ports at the back. Slide the retaining clamps into place to secure the connection.
Step 10. Connect the outlet hose to the port at the bottom of the dispenser, then use pliers to slide the retaining clamp into place.
Step 11. Move the dispenser assembly back into place, then apply the screws at the top of the control panel using a 1/4 inch nut-driver.
Step 12. Tighten the two screws next to the dispenser opening using a Torx screwdriver. Slide the soap tray back into the dispenser.
Step 13. Place the top panel on the cabinet, then secure it by applying the three bolts a the back using your nut-driver.
Step 14. Plug your washing machine back into the electrical outlet, then turn the water faucets back on.

To clean the agitator in your Maytag washing machine, follow the steps below…
Step 1. Open the lid of your washing machine. Using a flat-blade screwdriver, pry the cap off the agitator.
Step 2. Pull the filter out of the agitator and set it aside. Using a 7/16 inch socket wrench, take out the bolts holding the agitator assembly to the inner tub.
Step 3. Carefully pry the agitator out of the tub. Take the agitator assembly to a sink, then use a brush and running water to scrub off any dirt and grime on the agitator.
Step 4. Once the agitator has been cleaned properly, reinstall it in the inner tub, then tighten the bolt using a 7/16 inch nut-driver.
