What Is A Washing Machine Door Gasket?

How To Replace Washing Machine Door Gasket

Do the following to replace your washing machine door gasket…

Step 1. It is advised that you unplug your washing machine from its power supply and turn off the water valve before you start any repairs in order to prevent electrocution and water leakage.

Step 2. Remove the screws at the back of your washing machine holding the top panel with a Philips screwdriver. Slide the top panel backwards and lift it off your washing machine.

Step 3. Pull out your washing machine’s detergent drawer and press the tab inside to take it out of the machine completely. Use your Philips screwdriver to remove the two screws holding the detergent dispenser to the control panel. Move the detergent dispenser backwards.

Step 4. Disconnect the control panel from the front of your washing machine and disconnect the electrical connectors. Set the control panel aside.

Step 5. Flip open the little access panel at the lower front section of your washing machine. Pull out the emergency drain hose. Use a Philips screwdriver to remove the two screws under the panel. Close the lower access panel.

Step 6. Use a Philips screwdriver to remove three screws holding the door lock assembly to the washing machine.

Step 7. Insert a flat-blade screwdriver under the retaining clamp around the door boot seal. Work the screwdriver around until you can take the whole band off.

Step 8. Use your Philips screwdriver to remove the screws at the top of the main front panel of your washing machine. Carefully lift the main front of your washing machine and set it aside.

Step 9. Use a pair of pliers to press the little clamp on the hose connected to the door boot seal and slid the clamp out of place. Disconnect the hose from the door gasket.

Step 10. Use your Philips screwdriver to loosen the screw on the clamp securing the inner retaining band. Carefully pry the inner retaining band off the door boot seal and set it aside.

Step 11. Peel the door boot seal off the tub and set it aside. Take your new door gasket out of its packaging. Push out the little plastic fitting from the old door gasket and transfer it to the new one.

Step 12. Fit the new door seal around the tub opening. Fit the inner retaining band around the new door boot seal and tighten the clamp with your Philips screwdriver. Connect the little tube to the port on the new door seal and slide the retaining clamp in place to secure.

Step 13. Snap the main front panel of your washing machine back in place and apply the screws at the top with a Philips screwdriver to secure it. Open the lower front access panel and apply the two screws with your Philips screwdriver. Close the panel.

Step 14. Open the door of your washing machine. Reach inside the drum and push the door lock assembly back into place. Apply the three screws with your Philips screwdriver to secure it.

Step 15. Fit the door seal back around the door opening. Fit the outer retaining band around the door seal (you may need a flat-blade screwdriver to do this properly).

Step 16. Close the door of your washing machine. Connect the electrical connectors back to the control board assembly. Snap the control panel into the cabinet.

Step 17. Push then dispenser housing back in place and apply the two screws at the top with your Philips screwdriver to secure. Push the detergent drawer back in.

Step 18. Slide your washing machine’s top panel back on and use a Philips screwdriver to apply the retaining screws at the back. Plug your washing machine back to its power outlet and run a wash cycle to make sure everything is working properly.

How To Replace Top Loader Washing Machine Door Lock

Do the following to replace the door lock in your top loader washing machine…

Step 1. It is recommended that you unplug your washing machine from its power outlet and turn off the water supply before you start any repairs (this will prevent any chances of water damage and electrocution).

Step 2. Use a Philips screwdriver to remove the two screws at the back of your washing machine holding the entire top section. Take out the screw holding the little access panel under the main back panel. Pull the panel off and set it aside.

Step 3. Remove the six screws holding the rear access panel of the control housing. Pull the panel off your washing machine and set it aside. Reach behind the noise filter and pull the wire harness out of place.

Step 4. Disconnect the two halves off the electrical connector. Release the electrical connector from the retainer behind the noise filter. Push the connector and wire through the opening.

Step 5. Put some tape over the lid of your washing machine to secure it. Insert a putty knife under your washing machine’s main top panel to release the retaining clips. Lift your washing machine’s main top panel and support it.

Step 6. Release the lid lock wire from the retainers. Take out the two screws holding the lid lock assembly to the top panel of your washing machine. Pull the lid lock assembly off the top panel and set it aside.

Step 7. Take your new lid switch assembly out of its packaging. Put the new lid lock in place and apply the two screws to secure it. Secure the wires in the retainers.

Step 8. Push the lid lock connector through the opening in the top panel. Lower the main top panel of your washing machine and snap it in place. Peel the tape off the lid of your washing machine.

Step 9. Put the lid lock wire into the retainer at the back of the noise filter. Take the two ends of the electrical connectors and attach them to each other. Snap the connector block into the retainer.

Step 10. Put the little access panel back on and apply the screw with your Philips screwdriver to secure. Apply the two screws to secure the main top panel of your washing machine. Put the access panel of the control panel back on and apply the six screws at the back to secure it.

Step 11. Plug your washing machine back to its power outlet and turn on the water supply. Run a wash cycle to make sure everything is working properly.

How To Replace Front Loader Washing Machine Door Lock

Do the following to replace the door lock in your front loader washing machine…

Step 1. In order to prevent any chances of electrocution, it is advised that you unplug your washing machine from its power supply before attempting any repairs.

Step 2. Open the door of your washing machine. Insert a flat-blades screwdriver under the retaining band around the door boot seal and work your way around until the entire band comes off.

Step 3. Peel the door seal back away from the door lock assembly. Use a Philips screwdriver to remove the screws holding the door lock assembly to the washing machine. Reach inside the washing machine and pull the door lock out of place. Disconnect the electrical connector attached to the door lock.

Step 4. Take your new door lock assembly out of its packaging and connect the electrical connector to it. Put it new door lock in place inside the washing machine and apply the screws to secure it.
