Here are the steps you’ll need to take in order to replace your washing machine’s drive motor…
Step 1. Ensure that you unplug your washing machine’s power cord and turn off the water supply before attempting any repairs in order to avoid any chances of water leakage and electrocution.
Step 2. Use a tool such as a putty knife to pry the main front panel off your washing machine and set the panel aside. Afterwards disconnect the motor and mode shifter wires connected to the drive motor assembly (make sure you take note of the positioning of each wire).
Step 3. Use a pair of pliers to squeeze the motor wire retainer in order to detach the wires connected to the drive motor. Afterwards, pull the drive belt off the pulley of the drive motor.
Step 7. Remove the mounting nuts holding the drive motor assembly to the base of your washing machine (in order to completely take out the bolts, you will have to tilt the drive motor assembly forwards a little bit). pull the drive motor assembly out of your washing machine once you’ve taken the bolts off.
Step 8. Take your new drive motor assembly out of its packaging and secure it to the mounting bracket inside your washing machine by applying the mounting nuts. In order to be able to access the rear mounting nuts, you’ll have to pull the drive motor assembly forwards a bit.
Step 10. Loop the drive belt around the drive pulley and motor shaft, then insert the wire retainer into the base of the drive motor assembly.
Step 13. Connect the mode shifter and motor wires to their corresponding terminals on the new drive motor assembly, then snap your washing machine’s main front panel back in position.
Step 14. Plug your washing machine back to its power outlet and turn on the water supply, then test the washer by running a wash cycle.
