Front Loaders

To replace your Zanussi washing machine bearings, you’ll need to replace the replace the rear half of the outer tub. Follow the steps below to do this…

Step 1. In order to prevent any chances of electrocution and leakage, it is advised that you disconnect your appliance from the power outlet and turn the water faucets off before starting this repair.

Step 2. Using a pair of pliers if needed, disconnect the COLD and HOT water inlet hoses from the ports at the back of the cabinet (it is advised that you keep a rag nearby to clean any leaks).

Step 3. Loosen the nuts securing the rear access panel to the cabinet using a Philips screwdriver. Lift the panel off the cabinet carefully and set it aside.

Step 4. Take out the bolts securing the top panel. Pull the panel backwards a bit, then lift it off the cabinet.

Step 5. Use your Philips screwdriver to take out the bolts at the bottom of the lower front access panel. Lift the panel off the cabinet and set it aside.

Step 6. Open your washing machine’s door. Using a flat-blade screwdriver or needle-nosed pliers, pry out the retaining wire around the door seal (take care not to puncture the seal).

Step 7. Pry the door seal off the opening. Use pliers to untwist the retaining wire holding the inlet tube to the port on the door boot seal.

Step 8. Push a 6-point 1/2 inch socket onto the pointed end of a shock absorber’s upper mounting pin. Pull the pin out of the shock using pliers. Repeat this process with the second shock absorber.

Step 9. Pull the shock absorbers out of the mounts at the bottom of the tub. Rotate the drive pulley slowly, then unhook the belt.

Step 10. Disconnect the wire harness from the drive motor at the bottom of the tub. Loosen the bolts securing the drive motor to the bottom of the tub.

Step 11. Lift the drive motor off the tub, then pull it out of the cabinet. Cut the zip-tie securing the motor wire harness to the bottom of the tub.

Step 12. Place a rag underneath the tub. Using a Philips screwdriver, loosen the screw-clamp securing the sump hose to the bottom of the tub. Detach the hose from the tub (some water may spill).

Step 13. Pull the vent hose off the opening at the top of the drum. Using a socket wrench, take out the bolts holding the rear weight to the drum. Lift the weight off the machine carefully and set it aside.

Step 14. Go to the back of the machine, then use your Philips screwdriver to take out the bolts securing the control board to the cabinet.

Step 15. Pull the control board out of the cabinet, then disconnect the wire harnesses. Use your screwdriver to take out the bolts securing the retaining suspension spring retaining straps.

Step 16. With someone assisting you, lift each suspension spring and unhook it from the cabinet.

Step 17. Lift the tub assembly, then carefully guide it out of the cabinet. Unhook the two springs from the tub, then set the tub assembly facing upwards.

Step 18. Use a 3/8 inch socket wrench to take out the bolts securing the two halves of the outer tub. Lift the front half of the outer tub off the assembly (the front weights will still be attached).

Step 19. Turn the tub assembly over, then set it face-down on the floor. With a 9/16 inch socket wrench, take out the bolt securing the drive pulley to the back of the tub.

Step 20. Slide the drive pulley off the shaft and set it aside. Lift the rear half of the outer tub off the assembly.

Step 21. Prepare the new tub assembly for installation by unpacking it. Loosen the counter-weight plates, bolts, and washers on the old tub, then transfer them to the new one.

Step 22. Lower the rear half of the inner tub onto the inner tub. Place the drive pulley on the inner tub shaft, then secure it by tightening the 9/16 inch bolt.

Step 23. Turn the tub assembly over. Carefully lower the front half of the outer tub onto the tub assembly.

Step 24. Secure the two halves of the outer tub by tightening the 3/8 inch bolts. Lift the tub assembly upright, then attach the two suspension springs.

Step 25. With someone assisting you, carefully lift the tub assembly and guide it into the cabinet. Hook the two suspension springs onto the tub mounts.

Step 26. Place the spring retaining straps on the cabinet, then tighten the screws to secure them.

Step 27. Push the vent tube into the port at the top of the drum. Plug each wire harness into its appropriate terminal on the control board.

Step 28. Install the control board in the cabinet, then tighten the Philips screws to secure it.

Step 29. Remount the rear weight on the tub, then secure it by tightening the bolts. Reach underneath the tub, then reconnect the sump hose to the port.

Step 30. Secure the sump hose by tightening the screw-clamp with your Philips screwdriver. Use a new zip-tie to secure the motor wire harness to the bottom of the tub.

Step 31. Carefully remount the drive motor at the bottom of the tub, then use your socket wrench to tighten the bolts.

Step 32. Reconnect the wire harness to the drive motor. With the grooved side turned inwards, loop the drive belt around the drive pulley and motor pulley.

Step 33. Push each of the shock absorbers into the mounts at the bottom of the tub. Push the upper mounting pins into the shock absorbers.

Step 34. Go to the front of the machine, then reconnect the inlet tube to the port on the door boot seal. Secure the connection by twisting the retaining clamp.

Step 35. Refit the door boot seal around the door opening. Using your flat-blade screwdriver, refit the retaining wire around the door seal.

Step 36. Snap the lower front access panel onto the cabinet, then apply the bolts using your Philips screwdriver.

Step 37. Place the top panel on the cabinet, then push it forwards. Secure the panel by tightening the Philips screws.

Step 38. Remount the rear access panel onto the machine. Secure the panel by applying the bolts.

Step 39. Reconnect the HOT and COLD water supply hoses to the ports at the back of the machine (in order to avoid leakage, ensure that the hoses are properly attached).

Step 40. Turn the water supply faucets on, then plug the power cord into the outlet. Ensure that the new Zanussi washing machine bearings are working properly by running a wash cycle.

Step 1. Prevent any chances of electrocution by disconnecting your appliance from the outlet before starting this repair.

Step 2. Place some tape on the lid of the machine to help secure it. Insert a putty knife underneath the front corners of the top panel (this will release the locking clips).

Step 3. Lift the top panel, then support it using a lanyard. Using a Philips screwdriver, take out the bolts at the bottom of the front panel. Lift the panel upwards, then lift it off the cabinet.

Step 4. Pry the soap dispenser cover and cup off the agitator. With a 1/2 inch socket wrench, take out the nut holding the agitator to the tub. Pull the agitator out of the tub, then set it aside.

Step 5. Release the pressure tube from the retainer at the side of the tub. With a flat-blade screwdriver, release the tabs securing the tub cover to the assembly. Lift the cover off and set it aside.

Step 6. Loosen the truneon block mounting bolts using the 1/2 inch socket. Take the block off the tub shaft and set it aside.

Step 7. Carefully lift the inner tub out of the cabinet and set it aside. Release the brass ring from the gasket on the shaft by pushing it down.

Step 8. Slide the gasket and brass ring off the drive shaft. Using your Philips screwdriver, take out the bolts securing the motor shield to the lower section of the tub.

Step 9. Move the motor shield and capacitor aside. Use a pair of pliers to squeeze the retaining clamp securing the drain hose to the bottom of the tub, then slide it out of place.

Step 10. Detach the drain hose from the bottom of the tub (ensure that you have a rag nearby to clean any leaks).

Step 11. Disconnect the pressure tube from the port at the side of the tub. Using your socket wrench, loosen the bolts securing the outer tub to the frame.

Step 12. Lift the outer tub off the shaft. Set the outer tub face-down on the floor. Loosen the bolts securing the bearing to the bottom of the tub using a Philips screwdriver.

Step 13. Pry the bearing out of the tub opening using a flat-blade screwdriver. Discard the old bearing, then prepare the new one for installation by unpacking it.

Step 14. Push the new Zanussi washing machine bearing into the opening at the bottom of the tub. Secure the new bearing by applying the Philips screws.

Step 15. Lift the tub assembly upright, then lower it onto the drive shaft. Secure the tub assembly to the mounting frame by applying the bolts.

Step 16. Reconnect the pressure tube to the port at the side of the tub. Reconnect the drain hose to the port at the bottom of the tub. Secure the hose by sliding the retaining clamp into place.

Step 17. Move the motor shield back into place, then secure it by applying the bolts with your Philips screwdriver.

Step 18. Push the brass ring and rubber gasket onto the drive shaft. Put the trunion block in place, then secure it by applying the bolts.

Step 19. Snap the tub cover onto the assembly. Secure the pressure tube in the retainer at the side of the tub.

Step 20. Lower the agitator into the inner tub, then secure it by applying the 1/2 inch bolt. Push the dispenser cup and cap back onto the agitator.

Step 21. Lift the front panel, then carefully mount it on the cabinet. Apply the bolts at the bottom to secure the panel.

Step 22. Carefully lower the top panel onto the cabinet, then snap it into place. Peel the tape off the lid of your machine.

Step 23. Plug your washing machine’s power cord into the outlet, then try running a wash cycle to ensure that the new Zanussi washing machine bearing works properly.
