To replace the power cord in your top loader Amana washing machine, here are the steps you’ll need to take…

Step 1. Shut the water supply to your washing machine and disconnect the power cord from its electrical outlet before starting this repair.

Step 2. Disconnect the two water supply hoses from the ports at the back of your washing machine (keep a rag nearby to clean any water that spills out).

Step 3. With your 1/4 inch nut-driver, take out the bolts securing the control panel at the back of the machine.

Step 4. Insert a putty knife underneath the two bottom corners of the control panel to release the spring clips. Lift the control panel and disconnect the electrical connector attached to it. Set the control panel aside.

Step 5. Use your screwdriver to take out the nuts holding the upper rear access panel to the cabinet.

Step 6. Unplug the power cord and line filter wire connectors and from the control board.

Step 7. Use your nut-driver to take out the bolts holding the power cord grounding wire. Loosen the bolts at the back of the cabinet securing the main top panel.

Step 8. Lift the top panel and support it using a lanyard. Release the retaining tab at the bottom of the top panel securing the power cord. Pull the power cord out off the top panel and discard it.

Step 9. Lower the top panel and snap it back into the cabinet. Apply the bolts at the back of the machine to secure the panel.

Step 10. Prepare your new washing machine power cord for installation by removing it from its packaging.

Step 11. Snap the retainer of the new power cord into the opening on the top panel. Plug the two wire harnesses into their appropriate terminals on the control board. Secure the grounding wire by applying the bolt with your screwdriver.

Step 12. Put the upper rear access panel back onto the machine and apply the bolts with your nut-driver to secure it.

Step 13. Plug the wire connector on the control panel into the control board. Snap the control panel into the cabinet and apply the screws at the back with your screwdriver to secure it.

Step 14. Reattach the COLD and HOT water supply hoses to the ports at the back of your washing machine.

Step 15. Plug the power cord into the electrical outlet and turn the water supply faucet back on. To ensure that the problem has been fixed, try running a cycle.

Step 5. Prepare your new washing machine power cord for installation by removing it from its packaging.

Step 6. Push the wire connectors of the new power cord through the opening at the back of the cabinet. Rotate the strain relief to secure the power cord.
