How To Unlock GE Washing Machine Door — Guide

If you can’t unlock the door of your GE washing machine, do the following…

Step 1. Ensure that your water and power supply is turned off

Step 2. Get some garden wire or fishing line.

Step 3. Run the wire around the door frame and pull the two ends of the wire towards your left away from the door lock. This should manually force the door lock open.

How To Replace GE Washing Machine Top Loader Door Switch

Do the following to replace the door lock in your GE top loader washing machine…

Step 1. Before attempting any repairs, ensure that you turn off your washing machine’s water and power supply in order to avoid water leakage and electrocution.

Step 2. Use a screwdriver to take out the screws at the back of your washing machine holding the control panel to the main top.

Step 3. Slide the control panel sideways and detach it from the main top.

Step 4. Disconnect the wires from the control board and set the board aside.

Step 5. Insert a putty knife under the main top panel of your washing machine to release the two clips holding the main front section.

Step 6. Detach the front panel from your washing machine and set it aside.

Step 7. Use your screwdriver to take out the two screws holding the top panel at the front section of your washing machine.

Step 8. Pull the top panel forward a bit and lift it up slightly.

Step 9. Reach under the top panel with a pair of pliers and release the lid switch wire retainer from the cabinet.

Step 10. Open the lid of your washing machine.

Step 11. Reach under the top panel and press the tab on the lid switch to release it.

Step 12. Push the lid switch through the opening on the top panel.

Step 13. Turn the switch sideways and push it back through the opening.

Step 14. Take the front panel off the washing machine and set it aside.

Step 15. Cut the lid switch wires as close to the lid switch as possible and set the old lid switch aside.

Step 16. Get your new lid switch out of its pack.

Step 17. Trim the wires of the new lid switch to an appropriate length and trim off about 1/4 inch of insulation from the old lid and new lid switch wires.

Step 18. Splice each wire to its corresponding counter-part and secure with wire nuts.

Step 19. Put the wire retainer back in the frame.

Step 20. Push the new lid switch through the hole in the main top panel and snap it in place.

Step 21. Push the main top panel back in place and apply the screws at the front to secure.

Step 22. Snap the main front panel of your washing machine back on.

Step 23. Connect the wires back to the control board and position the board on the main top. Apply the screws at the back to secure.

Step 24. Turn on your washing machine’s water and power supply.

Step 25. Run a wash cycle to ensure that everything is working properly

How To Replace GE Front Loader Washing Machine Door Lock

Do the following to replace the door lock in your GE front loader washing machine…

Step 1. Make sure to turn off your washing machine’s water and power supply before attempting any repairs in order to avoid water leakage and electrocution.

Step 2. Open the door of your washing machine.

Step 3. Wedge a flat-blade screwdriver under the retaining wire around the door seal and work your way around until the entire wire comes off.

Step 4. Push the door boot seal aside away from the door lock.

Step 5. Use a Philips screwdriver to take out the three screws holding the door lock to the washing machine.

Step 6. Reach inside the washer and disconnect the two electrical connectors attached to the door lock assembly.

Step 7. Pull the door lock assembly out of your washing machine.

Step 8. Get your new door lock assembly out of its pack.

Step 9. Connect the two electrical connectors to the new door lock assembly and install the new lock in the washing machine.

Step 10. Apply the three Philips screws to secure the new door lock assembly.

Step 11. Fit the door boot seal back around the door opening.

Step 12. Fit the retaining band back around the door opening (you’ll need a flat-blade screwdriver to do this).

Step 13. Close the door of your washing machine.

Step 14. Turn on your washing machine’s water and power supply.

Step 15. Run a wash cycle to ensure that everything is working properly.
