How To Replace AEG Washing Machine Bearings — Solved

Replace your AEG washing machine bearings by following the steps below…

Step 1. Disconnect your washing machine from the electrical outlet and turn the water supply taps off before starting this repair in order to avoid leakage and electrocution.

Step 2. Go to the back of the washing machine, then detach the COLD and HOT water supply hoses from the ports (some water may spill, so make sure to keep a rag nearby).

Step 3. Loosen the bolts holding the top panel to the cabinet using a Philips screwdriver. Slide the top cover backwards a few inches, then lift it off the machine.

Step 4. Take out the screws holding the rear access panel to the machine. Lift the panel off carefully and set it aside.

Step 5. Go to the front of the machine, then use your Philips screwdriver to loosen the nuts holding the lower access panel. Lift the access panel off and set it aside.

Step 6. Open your washing machine’s door. Use needle-nosed pliers to carefully pry out the retaining band holding the door boot seal to the front panel (you can also use a flat-blade screwdriver).

Step 7. Pry the door seal off the lip of the front panel. Reach into the drum, then use needle-nosed pliers to untwist the retaining wire holding the door seal to the water inlet tube.

Step 8. Push a 1/2 inch socket onto the pointed end of the upper shock absorber mounting pins. Pull the pins out using pliers. Detach each shock absorber from the mount at the bottom of the tub.

Step 9. Go to the back of the machine, then unhook the drive belt from the motor pulley and drive pulley.

Step 10. Unplug the wire connector from the drive motor at the bottom of the tub. Release the motor wires from the retainer at the bottom of the tub.

Step 11. Loosen the bolts holding the drive motor to the bottom of the tub using a 5/16 inch nut-driver. Carefully lift the motor off the tub and set it aside.

Step 12. Place some towels underneath the tub to catch any leaks. With a screwdriver, loosen the nut on the screw-clamp securing the sump hose to the bottom of the tub. Detach the hose from the tub.

Step 13. Pull the vent hose off the port at the top of the drum. with a 13mm socket wrench, loosen the bolts holding the rear weight to the tub. Carefully lift the weight off the machine and set it aside.

Step 14. Using your Philips screwdriver, loosen the nuts holding the motor control board to the back of the cabinet. Pull the board out of the cabinet, then unplug the wire connectors attached to it (note where each plug goes).

Step 15. Take out the screws holding the suspension spring retaining straps to the top of the cabinet. Take the straps off and set them aside.

Step 16. Get someone to help you lift the two suspension springs, then unhook them from the cabinet. Carefully lower the tub assembly and guide it out of the cabinet.

Step 17. Set the tub assembly on the floor facing upwards. Loosen the bolts holding the two halves of the outer tub together using a 3/8 inch socket wrench. Lift the front half of the outer tub off the assembly and set it aside (the front weights will still be on the drum).

Step 18. Turn the tub assembly over and set it on the floor. Loosen the nut securing the drive pulley to the back of the outer tub using a 9/16 inch nut-driver. Lift the pulley off the inner tub shaft and set it aside.

Step 19. Apply some penetrating oil to the inner tub shaft, then leave the tub for about an hour or so. Lift the rear half of the outer tub off the assembly.

Step 20. Turn the rear half of the outer tub over. With a flat-blade screwdriver, pry out the bearing seal above the inner bearing in the housing.

Step 21. Set the rear half of the outer tub on two supports facing upwards. Using a mallet and a punch, reach into the tub and carefully knock out the larger outer bearing.

Step 22. Turn the tub over and set it face-down on the supports. Use your mallet and punch to knock out the inner bearing.

Step 23. Use a rag to carefully clean out any rust that may be in the bearing housing. Discard the old bearing pieces, then prepare the new AEG washing machine bearings for installation by unpacking them.

Step 24. Push the larger outer bearing into the opening at the back of the outer tub (apply some liquid soap to the bearing to make this easier). Use a mallet to carefully knock the outer bearing into place.

Step 25. Turn the outer tub over, then apply some liquid soap to the new inner bearing. Carefully knock the inner bearing into the tub with your mallet.

Step 26. Push the new AEG washing machine bearing seal into place above the inner bearing. Turn the tub assembly over, then carefully lower it onto the inner tub shaft.

Step 27. Place the drive pulley on the inner tub shaft, then secure it by tightening the 9/16 inch bolt.

Step 28. Turn the tub assembly over so it faces upwards. Carefully lower the front half of the outer tub onto the assembly. Secure the two halves of the outer tub by tightening the 3/8 inch bolts.

Step 29. Set the tub assembly upright, then hook the two suspension springs to the mounts. With someone assisting you, carefully lift the tub assembly and guide it into the cabinet.

Step 30. Lift the two suspension springs and hook them onto the cabinet mounts. Snap the spring retaining straps into place, then secure them by tightening the Philips screws.

Step 31. Reach underneath the tub, then push the shock absorbers into the mounts. Secure the shock absorbers by pushing the retaining pins into place.

Step 32. Push the vent hose back into the port at the top of the drum assembly reach underneath the tub, then connect the sump hose to the port. Secure the hose by tightening the screw-clamp with your Philips screwdriver.

Step 33. Plug each wire connector into its appropriate terminal on the motor control board. Install the board in the cabinet, then apply the Philips screws to secure it.

Step 34. Mount the rear counter-weight on the drum, then secure it by applying the 13mm bolts.

Step 35. Use a zip-tie to secure the motor wires to the bottom of the tub. Carefully lift the drive motor and remount it at the bottom of the tub. Secure the motor by applying the bolts.

Step 36. With the grooved side turned inwards, loop the drive belt around the motor pulley and drive pulley.

Step 37. Plug the wire connector into the motor assembly. Go to the front of the appliance, then reconnect the door boot seal to the water inlet tube. Secure the connection by twisting the retaining wire with pliers.

Step 38. Carefully fit the door boot seal around the lip of the front panel. Use needle-nosed pliers or a flat-blade screwdriver to fit the outer retaining band around the door boot seal.

Step 39. Snap the lower front access panel onto the cabinet, then use your Philips screwdriver to tighten the nuts.

Step 40. Place the top cover on the cabinet, then push it forwards. Secure the panel by tightening the Philips screws at the back.

Step 41. Snap the rear access panel onto the cabinet, then apply the screws. Reconnect the HOT and COLD water supply hoses to the corresponding ports (ensure that each hose is properly attached so water doesn’t leak).

Step 42. Plug your appliance back into the electrical outlet and turn the water faucets on. Ensure that the machine works properly by running a wash cycle.
