Step 19. Place the shift actuator onto the new transmission and use your nut-driver to apply the bolt. Reconnect the wire harness to the actuator.

Step 20. Put the motor assembly onto the transmission plate and apply the mounting bolts with your socket wrench. Plug the wire harness back to the motor and secure it in the retainer.

Step 21. Loop the drive belt around the transmission pulley and motor pulley (make sure the grooved side of the belt faces inwards). Put the belt guard back in place and secure it using the bolts.

Step 3. Spread a towel on the floor underneath the water supply hoses to catch any water leak. Use your pliers to unscrew the COLD and HOT water supply lines from the ports at the back of your machine.

Step 4. Secure the lid of your machine using some tape. With a nut-driver, remove the bolts at the back of your machine holding the top panel. Lift the top panel and support it using a lanyard or by laying it against a wall.

Step 5. Lift one of the suspension rod and take the bearing and socket off. Lower the rod through the opening on the cabinet and unhook it from the spring. Repeat this process with the other rods.

Step 6. Lower the top panel and snap it back into the cabinet. Apply the two bolts at the back to secure the top.

Step 7. With the help of another person, tilt your washing machine backwards carefully and lay it on the floor.

Step 8. Slide each of the four suspension rods through the openings on the tub. Take your new suspension rod kit out of its packaging.

Step 9. Slide each of the new rods through the holes on the outer tub. Carefully lift the machine back onto its feet.

Step 10. Remove the nuts at the back of your machine holding the top panel. Lift the panel and support it.

Step 11. Hook a spring onto one of the suspension rods. Pass the rod through the opening on the cabinet and secure it using the bearing and socket. Repeat this process with the other rods.

Step 12. Lower the top panel and snap it into the cabinet. Use your nut-driver to apply the screws at the back to secure it. Peel the tape off your machine’s lid.

Step 13. Reattach the drain hose to the back of your washer and secure it with the spring clamp.

Step 14. Connect the two water supply lines back to the ports at the back of your machine (ensure that the hoses are secured properly so water won’t leak out).

Step 15. Plug your machine back into the power outlet and turn the water valve back on. Test the machine by running a spin cycle.

3. Damaged Balance Ring (Top Loaders)

Replace a damaged balance ring in your Amana top loader washing machine by doing the following…

Step 1. Ensure that your washing machine is disconnected from the power supply before starting this repair in order to prevent electrocution.

Step 2. Secure the lid of your washing machine by putting some tape on it. Remove the screws at the back of the machine securing the top panel. Lift the top panel upwards and support by leaning it against a wall or using a lanyard.

Step 3. Pry the tub cover off the tub assembly and set it aside. Use a flat-blade screwdriver to release the tabs holding the balance ring between the inner tub and outer tub. Lift the balance ring out and set it aside.

Step 4. Take your new balance ring out of its packaging. Push it into place between the inner tub and outer tub. Rotate the ring clockwise to lock it in place.

Step 5. Snap the tub cover onto the tub assembly. Lower your machine’s top panel and snap it into the cabinet. Apply the bolts at the back with your nut-driver to secure the top panel.

Step 6. Plug your washer back into its power outlet and try running a spin cycle to see if the problem has been fixed.

4. Damaged Shock Absorber (Front Loaders)

Replace a damaged shock absorber in your front loader Amana washing machine by doing the following…

Step 1. Unplug your washing machine from the power outlet before starting this repair in order to prevent electrocution.

Step 2. Using a 1/4 inch nut-driver, take out the bolts at the back of your machine holding the top panel. Slide the panel backwards a few inches and lift it off the cabinet.

Step 3. Pull the soap drawer out and press the tab inside to release it from the housing.

Step 4. Remove the screws next to the detergent drawer housing. Use your nut-driver to remove the screws holding the control panel to the front of the cabinet. Pull the panel off and lay it on top of the cabinet.

Step 5. Open your machine’s door. Using either a pair of needle-nosed pliers or a flat-blade screwdriver, take out the retaining wire holding the door boot seal (make sure you do not damage the seal). Peel the door seal off the door opening.

Step 6. Use your Philips screwdriver to take out the screws holding the door lock to the cabinet.

Step 7. Tilt your machine backwards a bit and support the front with some blocks. With your screwdriver, take out the screws at the bottom of the front panel.

Step 8. Set your machine back onto its feet and take out the nuts at the top of the front panel. Carefully lift the entire front panel off your washing machine and set it aside.

Step 9. Use a pair of pliers to squeeze the upper mount of the shock absorber you want to replace. Press the tabs on the upper mount using a flat-blade screwdriver. Rotate the shock mount with your pliers to release it. Repeat this process with the lower mount.

Step 10. Take the shock absorber out of your machine and set it aside. Remove your new washer shock absorber from its packaging. Place the lower mount at the bottom of the cabinet and rotate it to secure.

Step 11. Align the upper mount with the tub opening and rotate it to secure. Snap the front panel back onto the cabinet and apply the screws at the top of the front panel.

Step 12. Tilt your machine backwards and place the supports underneath. Use your screwdriver to apply the four screws at the bottom.

Step 13. Set your machine back on its feet and open the door. Secure the door lock to the cabinet by applying the screws.

Step 14. Fit the door gasket back around the door opening and use your pliers or screwdriver to fit the retaining wire.

Step 15. Snap the control panel onto the front of the cabinet. Apply the control panel mounting screws and apply the screws beside the detergent drawer housing. Slide the detergent drawer back in place.

Step 16. Put your machine’s top panel back on and apply the bolts at the back with your nut-driver. Plug the power cord back into the outlet and try running a spin cycle to see if the problem has been fixed.

Replace the tub bearings in your Amana top loader washing machine by doing the following…

Step 1. Shut the water supply to your machine and disconnect the power cord from the outlet before starting this repair in order to prevent water leaks and electrocution.

Step 2. Secure the lid of your machine with some tape. Insert a putty knife underneath the top panel. Lift the panel and support against a wall or with a lanyard (do not rely on the panel hinges for support).

Step 3. Using a pair of pliers, release the spring clamp holding the re-circulation hose to the tub cover. Pull the hose off.

Step 4. Pry the tabs on the tub cover to release it from the tub assembly. Take the cap off the agitator and use your 7/16 inch socket wrench to take the bolt out. Pull the agitator assembly out of the machine and set it aside.

Step 5. Using your Philips screwdriver, remove the screws holding the basket hub inside the tub. Carefully lift the inner tub off the shaft and set it aside (if you have any difficulty doing this, apply some penetrating oil to the shaft).

Step 6. Lower the top panel and snap it into the cabinet. Tilt the machine backwards a bit and lay support it against the wall.

Step 7. Loosen the nut holding the rotor to the bottom of the tub using your 1/4 inch Allen wrench. Carefully lift the rotor assembly off the stator and set it aside.

Step 8. Remove the bolts securing the stator to the bottom of the tub with a 3/8 inch socket. Lift the stator and stator plate off the tub. Unplug the wire harness from the stator and set it aside.

Step 9. Using a pair of pliers, squeeze the tip of the drive shaft. Use your adjustable wrench to loosen the nut securing the drive shaft.

Step 10. Knock the drive shaft through the tub opening using a hammer. Set your machine upright, then lift and support the top panel. Take the drive tube out of the tub.

Step 11. Using a hammer and the bearing removal rod (provided in the installation tool kit), knock out the lower bearing out of the tub.

Step 12. Lower the top panel and tilt your washer back. Remove the three bearing pieces underneath your machine.

Step 13. From under the tub, knock out the upper bearing with your hammer and rod. Set your washer on its feet and lift the top. Take the upper bearing out of the tub and discard it.

Step 14. Take your new tub bearing kit out of its packaging. Clean the bearing seat using a cloth.

Step 15. Push the new upper bearing into the seat. Take your bearing installation tool and unscrew the three lower pieces on the shaft. Slide the installation tool shaft through the bearing opening.

Step 16. Close the top panel and tilt the machine backwards. Slide the drive tube, bearing washer, and lower bearing onto the installation tool shaft.

Step 17. Put the three lower pieces of the installation tool back on. Tighten the nut using your adjustable wrench (this will force the lower bearing into the housing).

Step 18. Once the lower bearing is in place, use the wrench to loosen the nut and take the three installation tool pieces off the shaft.

Step 19. Set your machine on its feet and take the installation tool out of the tub. Slide the new drive tube through the opening on the upper bearing and snap knock it firmly into place with a hammer.

Step 20. Tilt the machine backwards and support it against the wall. Secure the drive tube nut by applying the nut with your adjustable wrench.

Step 21. Plug the wire connector back to the stator. Put the stator and mounting plate back on the tub and apply the bolts using your socket wrench.

Step 22. Place the rotor assembly on the drive shaft and tighten the nut with your 1/4 inch Allen wrench.

Step 23. Set the machine upright, then lift and support the top panel. Fill the two grooves of the new bearing seal using the grease provided.

Step 24. Apply a bead of the provided sealant around the new bearing (to help the sealant cure, you’ll need to leave the machine for a day before running a cycle).

Step 25. Slide the new bearing down the drive shaft. Use a hammer and the provided installation tool rod to firmly push the new seal into place.

Step 26. Apply an even coat of sealant on top of the new seal. Clean any excess grease or sealant on the shaft or tub using a towel.

Step 27. Carefully lower the inner tub onto the shaft. Put the basket hub back in place and apply the screws with your Philips screwdriver.

Step 28. Snap the tub cover back onto the tub assembly. Connect the re-circulation hose to the port on the tub cover and secure the hose with the spring clamp.

Step 29. Lower the agitator into the tub and apply the bolt with your socket wrench. Snap the cap back on the agitator.

Step 30. Lower the top panel back onto the cabinet and snap it into place. Peel the tape off the lid.

Step 31. Reconnect your machine to the power outlet and make sure the problem has been fixed by running a spin cycle.

Amana Washing Machine Not Going Through Cycles — Quick Fix

If your Amana washing machine isn’t going through cycles, it indicates that the shift actuator is defective. Here’s what you’ll need to do to replace this part in your Amana washing machine…

Step 10. Reattach the drain hose to the back of the washer and secure it with the spring clamp.

Step 11. Connect the two water supply lines to the ports at the back of your machine (ensure that they are secured properly so there’s no chance of water leakage).

Step 12. Reconnect the power cord to the outlet and turn the water valve back on. Try running a wash cycle to see if the issue has been fixed.
