Do the following to clear a clogged drain filter on your LG washing machine machine…

Step 1. Turn off your washing machine’s water and power supply in order to avoid water leakage or electrocution.

Step 2. Place some rags or old towels on the ground in front of your washing machine.

Step 3. Flip open the little panel at the lower front section of your washing machine.

Step 4. Pull out the short capped hose under the panel.

Step 5. Place a container under the hose.

Step 6. Pull the hose’s cap off and let any water that may be stuck in the washing machine drain out.

Step 7. Once all the water has drained out from the washing machine, put the hose’s cap back on and push the hose back in place.

Step 8. Turn the knob beside the emergency drain hose counterclockwise and pull it out (this is the drain pump filter).

Step 9. Take the drain pump filter to a sink and thoroughly rinse out any lint or debris that may have accumulated in it.

Step 10. Once the filter is clean, put it back in place and turn it clockwise to secure.

Step 11. Put the panel back in place.

Step 12. Turn on your washing machine’s water and power supply.

Here’s how to replace the drain pump on your LG front loader washing machine…

Step 1. Turn off your washing machine’s water and power supply in order to avoid water leakage and electrocution.

Step 2. Use a Philips screwdriver to take out the screws at the back of your washing machine securing the top panel.

Step 3. Slide the panel back about an inch or so and lift it off your washing machine.

Step 4. Pull the soap dispenser out press the blue tab at the center to take it out of the washing machine completely.

Step 5. Using a Philips screwdriver, remove the screws on each side of the detergent drawer housing.

Step 6. Use a flat-blade screwdriver to release the tabs behind your washing machine’s user control panel.

Step 7. Detach the user control panel from the washing machine and lay it down on top of the cabinet frame.

Step 8. Open the filter flap at the lower front panel of your washing machine.

Step 9. Pull out the emergency drain hose and use a Philips screwdriver to take out the screw beside it.

Step 10. Pull the lower front panel off your washing machine.

Step 11. Open the door of your washing machine.

Step 12. Wedge a flat-blade screwdriver under the retaining band around the door boot seal and work your way around until the entire wire comes off.

Step 13. Push the door seal into the washing machine’s drum.

Step 14. Reach in behind the door lock assembly and disconnect the electrical connector.

Step 15. Close the door of your washing machine.

Step 16. Use a Philips screwdriver to remove the five screws securing the main front section of the washing machine (three at the bottom and two at the top).

Step 17. Pull the main front section up and out of the washing machine.

Step 18. Using your Philips screwdriver, remove the three screws around the drain filter knob.

Step 19. Take a picture of the orientation of the drain pump before disconnecting anything.

Step 20. Disconnect the electrical connector attached to the washing machine’s drain pump assembly.

Step 21. Use a pair of pliers to press the clamps on the hoses connected to the drain pump and slide them out of place.

Step 22. Disconnect each hose from the drain pump.

Step 23. Pull the old drain hose assembly out of your washing machine.

Step 24. Get your new drain pump assembly out of its pack.

Step 25. Install your new drain pump assembly in the washing machine and connect the electrical connector to it.

Step 26. Connect each hose to its appropriate port on the new drain pump assembly, using the pictures you took as reference.

Step 27. Secure the hoses to the drain pump by sliding the retaining clamps in place.

Step 28. Pass the emergency drain hose of the new drain pump through the opening on the washing machine.

Step 29. Apply the three screws around the drain filter knob.

Step 30. Put the main front section of the washing machine back on and secure it by applying the five screws (two at the top and three at the bottom).

Step 31. Open the door of your washing machine.

Step 32. Reach inside the washer and reconnect the door lock’s wire connector.

Step 33. Fit the door boot seal back around the door opening.

Step 34. Fit the retaining band back around the door seal using a flat-blade screwdriver (this will require some effort).

Step 35. Close the door of your washing machine.

Step 36. Put the lower front panel of your washing machine back in place and secure it by applying the screw beside the emergency drain hose.

Step 37. Flip the filter housing cover back up.

Step 38. Snap the user control board back in place and secure it by applying the screws beside the detergent drawer housing.

Step 39. Put the detergent drawer back into the washing machine.

Step 40. Put the top panel of the washing machine back on and secure it by applying the screws at the back.

Step 41. Turn on your washing machine’s water and power supply.

Step 42. Try running a wash cycle to see if the issue has been resolved.

Replacing An LG Washing Machine Drain Pump — Top Loaders

Do the following to replace a defective drain pump in your LG top loader washing machine…

Step 1. Turn off your washing machine’s water and power supply in order to avoid water leakage or electrocution.

Step 2. Go to the back of your washing machine.

Step 3. Using a Philips screwdriver, take out the screws holding the rear panel of your washing machine.

Step 4. Release the retaining clamp on each hose connected to the drain pump and slide clamps out of place (use pliers if needed).

Step 5. Disconnect each hose from the drain pump assembly.

Step 6. Using a 10mm socket wrench, remove the bolts securing the drain pump to the base of your washing machine.

Step 7. Detach the drain pump electrical connector on the base of the washing machine.

Step 8. Pull the wire sleeve from the tabs on the base of the washing machine.

Step 9. Untwist the retaining wire holding the bundle of electrical connectors to the frame of your washing machine.

Step 10. Disconnect the two wire pump wire connectors in the wire bundle to fully release the drain pump assembly from the washing machine.

Step 11. Get your new washing machine drain pump assembly out of its pack.

Step 12. Install the new drain pump assembly in your washing machine and secure it by applying the three 10mm bolts on the base.

Step 13. Connect the two electrical connectors of the new drain pump assembly to the bundle of electrical connectors near the washer’s cabinet frame.

Step 14. Secure the bundle of electrical connectors to the washer’s frame using the retaining wire.

Step 15. Secure the wire sleeve in the tabs on the base of the washing machine.

Step 16. Connect the main wire connector to the drain pump.

Step 17. Connect the two hoses to the new drain pump.

Step 18. Secure the hoses to the pump by sliding the retaining clamps in place.

Step 20. Turn on your washing machine’s water and power supply.
