Step 10. Try pulling the shock absorber apart and push in it inwards. If you feel little or no resistance from the shock absorber, this indicates that it is damaged and needs to be replaced.
Step 11. Once you’ve gotten the new shock absorber, push the lower and upper parts into the mounts at the bottom of the tub and cabinet. Secure the new shock absorber by pushing the lower and upper pins in.
Step 12. With the new shock absorber installed, mount the rear access panel on the cabinet, then apply the Philips screws.
Step 13. Push the retainer onto the drain hose, then tighten the nut. Mount the support rail on the rear access panel, then apply the screws.
Step 14. Snap the wire retainer into the little slot on the support rail. Plug the power cord’s connector and grounding wire back in.

Step 4. Use a pair of needle-nosed pliers to release the power cord wire retainer from the slot on the rear panel.
Step 5. Unplug the power cord’s wire connector and grounding wire at the back of the cabinet. Take out the screws holding the support rail to the top of the rear access pane. Lift the rail off the machine and set it aside.
Step 6. Loosen the screws holding the rear panel to the washer. Lift the rear panel off the machine carefully, then support it against the cabinet.
Step 7. Carefully unhook the drive belt from the motor pulley and drive pulley. Set the belt aside. Reach underneath the drum, then unplug the wire connector from the drive motor.
Step 8. With a 5/16 inch socket wrench, loosen the bolts holding the drive motor to the bottom of the tub. Carefully pull the motor assembly out of the cabinet.
Step 9. Try rotating the motor pulley by hand. If the motor produces a grinding noise, it indicates that the bearings are damaged. To fix this issue, you’ll need to replace the entire motor.
Step 10. Once you’ve acquired your new drive motor, remount it at the bottom of the tub. Secure the new motor by tightening the 5/16 inch bolts.
Step 11. Plug the wire harness into the terminal on the motor. Loop the drive belt around the motor pulley and drive pulley (ensure that the grooved side of the belt is facing inwards).
Step 12. Mount the rear access panel on the cabinet, then tighten the screws. Push the retainer onto the drain hose and apply the nut.
Step 13. Mount the support rail on the rear access panel and apply the Philips screws. Snap the wire retainer into the slot on the support rail.
Step 14. Reconnect the power cord’s wire harness and grounding wire. Place the top cover on the cabinet, then push it into place. Apply the nuts to secure the top panel.
Step 15. Attach the HOT and COLD water supply hoses to the ports at the back of the cabinet. Plug your machine into the power outlet, then turn the water faucets on. Find out if your AEG washing machine is making noise by running a spin cycle.
Dryers
Check the motor bearing in your AEG dryer by following the steps below…
Step 1. In order to prevent any chances of electrocution, ensure that you disconnect your machine from the power outlet before starting this procedure.
Step 2. Go to the back of your appliance. Using a Philips screwdriver, loosen the nuts holding the top cover. Pull the cover backwards a few inches, then lift it off.
Step 3. Take out the screws at the top of the control panel. Pry the panel off the front of the cabinet (if needed, use a flat-blade screwdriver).
Step 4. Unplug the user interface wire connector from the control panel, then set the panel aside.
Step 5. Disconnect the drum light and user interface wire connectors from the main control board mounted on the drum.
Step 6. Open the door of your appliance, then use your Philips screwdriver to take out the bolts securing the housing of the lint filter.
Step 7. Tilt your washing machine backwards carefully, then place something underneath to support it.
Step 8. Use your screwdriver to take out the bolts underneath the front panel. Lower your washing machine onto the floor.
Step 9. Loosen the screws at the top of the front panel. Lift the front panel off the cabinet carefully, then disconnect the door switch wire harness at the back.
Step 10. With your screwdriver, remove the nuts holding the control board’s support bracket to the front bulkhead. Carefully lift the bracket out of place and support it.
Step 11. Loosen the nuts securing the bulkhead to the front of the drum. Lift the bulkhead off carefully and set it aside.
Step 12. Reach under the drum carefully, then release the tension on the drive belt by pushing the idler pulley inwards.
Step 13. Unhook the drive belt from the motor pulley and idler pulley. Carefully lift the drive belt and drum out of the cabinet, then set them aside.
Step 14. Unplug the wire harness from the drive motor. Secure the motor shaft using a pair of pliers. While securing the shaft, loosen the blower wheel using a 7/8 inch socket.
Step 15. Use a flat-blade screwdriver to help pry off the front and rear mounting clips securing the motor. Lift the motor assembly out of the cabinet carefully.
Step 16. Try rotating the motor pulley by hand. If you hear a grinding noise when turning the pulley, the motor bearings are damaged. You’ll need to replace the entire drive motor to fix this issue.
Step 17. Once you’ve acquired your new drive motor, install it in the cabinet, then snap the two retaining clips into place.
Step 18. Plug the wire connector into the new drive motor. Secure the motor shaft, then tighten the blower wheel using a 7/8 inch socket wrench.
Step 19. Lift the drum and drive belt, then guide them into the cabinet. Reach under the drum, then hook the belt onto the motor and idler pulleys in a zig-zag formation.
Step 20. Rotate the drum by hand to ensure that the belt is properly aligned. Once the drive belt is in place, mount the front bulkhead on the cabinet. Secure bulkhead by tightening the screws.
Step 21. Mount the control board support bracket on the front bulkhead, then secure it by tightening the Philips screws.
Step 22. Reconnect the drum light and user interface wire connectors to the appropriate terminals on the control board.
Step 23. Lift the front panel, then plug the door switch wire connector in. Mount the panel onto the bulkhead, then tighten the nuts at the top with your Philips screwdriver.
Step 24. Open your dryer’s door, then apply the nuts on the front panel to secure the lint filter housing.
Step 25. Tilt your washing machine backwards carefully, then support it. Apply the Philips screws at the bottom of the front panel.
Step 26. Lower your washing machine onto the floor. Plug the user interface wire connector into the control panel. Snap the panel onto the front of the cabinet, then tighten the screws at the top.
Step 27. Place the top cover on the cabinet, then push it forwards. Secure the top panel by applying the Philips screws at the back.
Step 28. Plug your dryer into the electrical outlet. Find out if your AEG washing machine is making noise by running a cycle.
8. AEG Washing Machine Is Making Noise When Spinning — Worn Drum Seal (Dryers)
If your AEG dryer makes a grinding noise when spinning, it indicates that the drum seal has been damaged. The steps below show you how to replace this part…
Step 1. Ensure that you unplug your appliance from the power outlet before starting this repair in order to prevent electrocution.
Step 2. From the back of the cabinet, use a Philips screwdriver to take out the bolts holding the top panel to the machine. Pull the cover backwards about an inch or so, then lift it off.
Step 3. Use your screwdriver to take out the nuts at the top of the control panel. Pry the panel off the mounting bracket at the front of the cabinet (use a flat-blade screwdriver if needed).
Step 4. Unplug the user interface connector from the control panel. Set the control panel aside. Open your machine’s door.
Step 5. Loosen the bolts on the front panel securing the lint filter housing. With someone assisting you, tilt your washer backwards carefully and support it.
Step 6. Take out the screws under the front panel. Lower your appliance onto the floor. Loosen the nuts securing the top of the front panel. Lift the panel off the machine carefully, then unplug the door switch connector at the back.
Step 7. Disconnect the drum light and user interface connectors from the control board mounted on the drum.
Step 8. Loosen the nuts on the front bulkhead securing the control board support bracket. Move the bracket out of position, then support it.
Step 9. Take out the screws securing the bulkhead to the front of the drum. Lift the bulkhead off carefully, then support it against the cabinet.
Step 10. Reach under the drum. Push the idler pulley inwards (this releases tension on the drive belt). Unhook the belt from the two pulleys.
Step 11. Carefully guide the drive belt and drum out of the cabinet. Set the tub assembly on the floor facing upwards.
Step 12. Using a tool such as a putty knife, peel the seal off the drum opening (scrape off any seal residue on the rim of the drum).
Step 13. Prepare your new drum seal for installation by unpacking it. Apply a layer of the provided adhesive to the outer rim of the drum.
Step 14. Carefully align the new seal on the drum’s opening (ensure that the side with the leather band faces outwards).
Step 15. Lift the drum, then guide it into the cabinet carefully. Loop the drive belt around the drum (ensure that the grooved side is facing inwards).
Step 16. Reach under the drum, then hook the belt onto the motor and idler pulleys in a zig-zag formation. Ensure that the belt is properly aligned by rotating the drum.
Step 17. With the drive belt in place, mount the front bulkhead onto the drum, then apply the Philips screws.
Step 18. Lift the control board’s support bracket and place it against the front bulkhead. Secure the bracket by tightening the screws.
Step 19. Plug the user interface and drum light connectors into the control board. Plug the door switch connector into the front panel.
Step 20. Carefully mount the front panel on the cabinet, then tighten the screws at the top using your Philips screwdriver.
Step 21. Open your machine’s door, then secure the lint filter housing by applying the nuts on the front panel.
Step 22. Tip your machine backwards and support it. Use your Philips screwdriver to apply the bolts at the bottom of the front panel. Set your appliance onto its feet.
Step 23. Connect the user interface connector to the control panel. Mount the control panel on the cabinet, then use your screwdriver to apply the nuts at the top.
Step 24. Place the top panel on the machine, then slide it forwards. Secure the panel by tightening the screws at the back.
Step 25. Plug your appliance into the electrical outlet. Try running a cycle to see if your AEG washing machine is making noise.
Note: Please keep in mind that some of the steps in the section above will be a bit different depending on the model of your appliance.
9. AEG Washing Machine Is Making Noise When Spinning — Broken Spider Arm (Front Loaders)
The spider arm is mounted at the back of the inner tub and ensures that the drum spins smoothly. If your AEG washing machine is making noise when spun by hand, the spider is cracked.
It is advised that you replace it immediately in order to prevent it from breaking completely. Please note that this is a complex repair and will require a lot of patience. Follow the steps below to replace a damaged spider arm in your AEG washing machine…
Tools Required:
- Philips screwdriver
- 5/16, 7/16, 3/8 inch socket wrenches
- 12mm wrench
- 6mm Allen wrench
- Pliers
- Zip-tie
- Wire cutters
- Two blocks for support
Step 1. In order to avoid any chances of electrocution and leakage, ensure that you disconnect your appliance from the power outlet and turn the water faucets off before starting this repair.
Step 2. Go to the back of the machine, then disconnect the COLD and HOT water supply hoses (use a pair of pliers if needed).
Step 3. With a Philips screwdriver, loosen the nuts at the back of the appliance securing the top panel. Pull the panel backwards about an inch or so, then lift it off.
Step 4. Go to the front of the appliance. Slide the detergent tray out, then release it from the dispenser by pressing the little tab inside.
Step 5. With your screwdriver, loosen the nuts next to the dispenser’s opening on the control panel. Loosen the screws at the top corners of the control panel.
Step 6. Using a flat-blade screwdriver if needed, pry the control panel off the front of the cabinet. Unplug the interface wire connector from the control panel, then set the panel aside.
Step 7. Reach inside the cabinet and unplug the door switch wire connector behind the front panel.
Step 8. Open the door of your appliance. Wedge a flat-blade screwdriver under the wire around the door boot seal (take care not to puncture the seal). Work the screwdriver around until the wire pops off.
Step 9. Peel the door gasket off the lip of the front panel. Tip your machine backwards a bit, then place a support underneath.
Step 10. Use your Philips screwdriver to take out the nuts at the bottom of the front panel. Lower your washing machine onto the floor.
Step 11. Loosen the Philips screws at the top of the front panel. Lift the entire front panel off the cabinet carefully and set it aside.
Step 12. Pull the light assembly out of the port at the top of the door boot seal. Using your wire cutters, cut the zip-tie holding the inlet tube to the door boot seal. Pull the tube off the seal.
Step 13. With a 7/16 inch socket wrench, loosen the bolts securing the front weights to the drum. Lift each weight off the drum carefully and set aside.
Step 14. Push a 12mm wrench onto the pointed end of one of the upper shock absorber mounting pins (this releases the locking clips). Pull the pin out through the other end. Repeat this process with the second front shock absorber.
Step 15. Pull each shock absorber out of its mount at the bottom of the tub. Go to the back of the cabinet, then unplug the power cord’s wire connector.
Step 16. Disconnect the power cord’s grounding wire. Use needle-nosed pliers to release the wire retainer from the slot on the support rail mounted on the rear panel.
Step 17. Take out the screws securing the support rail to the rear panel. Lift the rail off the cabinet and set it aside.
Step 18. Loosen the screw holding the retainer to the drain hose. Pull the retainer off and set it aside.
Step 19. Remove the Philips screws securing the rear access panel to the cabinet. Lift the panel off the machine carefully, then support it against the cabinet (the drain hose is still attached to the panel at this point).
Step 20. Pull the drive belt off the motor pulley and drive pulley. Use a 5/16 inch nut-driver to loosen the bolts holding the drive motor to the bottom of the tub. Carefully lift the drive motor off the tub.
Step 21. Using a pair of needle-nosed pliers, release the wire retainer from the slot on the motor housing. Unplug the wire connector from the drive motor.
Step 22. Pull the drive motor out of the cabinet and set it aside. With your Philips screwdriver, loosen the nuts holding the motor control board to the cabinet. Pull the board out of place.
Step 23. Release the wire retainer from the control board housing using needle-nosed pliers. Pry the cover off the motor control board.
Step 24. Note the positioning of the plugs attached to the motor control board, then disconnect each one. Set the motor control board aside.
Step 25. Using a flat-blade screwdriver if needed, pry each connector off the heating element at the bottom of the tub.
Step 26. Release all the wire retainers from the slots at the bottom of the tub. Push the 12mm wrench onto the pointed end of an upper rear shock absorber mounting pin. Pull the pin out through the other end. Repeat this process with the second shock absorber.
Step 27. Pull each shock absorber out of its mount at the bottom of the tub. In order to avoid leakage, place some towels underneath the tub assembly.
Step 28. Use your Philips screwdriver to loosen the screw-clamp securing the sump hose to the bottom of the tub. Pull the hose off the tub.
Step 29. Use a pair of pliers to release the spring clamp securing the other end of the sump hose to the pressure chamber. Pull the hose off the pressure chamber.
Step 30. Squeeze the spring clamp holding the pressure tube to the top of the pressure chamber, then slide it out of place. Pull the hose off the chamber.
Step 31. Note the positioning if the wires attached to the water inlet valve assembly, then unplug each one.
Step 32. Loosen the screws on the upper support rail securing the dispenser and inlet valve assembly.
Step 33. Loosen the screw clamp holding the dispenser’s outlet hose to the port at the top of the tub. Pull the hose off the machine.
Step 34. Carefully pull the detergent dispenser assembly out of the cabinet. Take out the screws securing the suspension spring retaining straps to the cabinet.
Step 35. With someone assisting you, carefully lift the two suspension springs and unhook them from the cabinet. Guide the tub assembly out of the cabinet.
Step 36. Unhook the two suspension springs from the tub assembly. Set the tub assembly on two supports facing upwards.
Step 37. Loosen the bolts holding the two halves of the outer tub together using a 3/8 inch socket wrench. Lift the front half of the outer tub off the assembly carefully and set it aside.
Step 38. Turn the tub assembly over and set it on the floor. With your 6mm Allen wrench, loosen the nut holding the drive pulley to the inner tub shaft. Lift the pulley off the shaft and set it aside.
Step 39. Lift the rear half of the outer tub off the inner tub shaft (if this is difficult, apply some penetrating oil to the tub shaft and bearings, then try again).
Step 40. Loosen the six screws holding the spider arm assembly to the bottom of the inner tub. Lift the spider off the tub and discard it.
Step 41. Prepare the new spider arm assembly for installation by unpacking it. Carefully mount the spider arm on the inner tub. Secure the assembly by tightening the six screws.
Step 42. Lift the rear half of the outer tub, then lower it onto the spider shaft on the inner tub.
Step 43. Slide the drive pulley onto the tub shaft, then secure it by tightening the nut with your 6mm Allen wrench.
Step 44. Turn the tub assembly over and set it on the two supports. Lower the front half of the outer tub onto the assembly.
Step 45. Use a 3/8 inch socket wrench to apply the nuts to secure the two halves of the outer tub. Lift the tub assembly upright, then hook the suspension springs on.
Step 46. With someone assisting you, lift the tub assembly, then carefully guide it back into the cabinet.
Step 47. Lift the springs, then hook them onto the mounts on the cabinet. Put the suspension spring retaining straps in place, then tighten the nuts.
Step 48. Carefully push the dispenser assembly into place above the tub assembly. Connect the dispenser’s outlet hose to the port at the top of the drum. Secure the connection by tightening the screw-clamp.
Step 49. Plug each wire connector into its appropriate terminal on the water inlet valve. Carefully reach into the cabinet, then attach the pressure tube to the port at the top of the air chamber.
Step 50. Secure the pressure tube by sliding the retaining clamp into place with a pair of pliers.
Step 51. Connect the sump hose to the bottom of the tub, then use your Philips screwdriver to tighten the screw-clamp.
Step 52. Connect the other end of the sump hose to the opening at the bottom of the air chamber. Use pliers to move the spring clamp into place.
Step 53. Push each of the rear shock absorbers into the mounts at the bottom of the tub. Secure the shocks by pushing the upper retaining pins into the slots.
Step 54. Snap the wire retainers into the slots at the bottom of the tub. Reconnect each wire harness to its corresponding terminal on the heating element.
Step 55. Go to the front of the machine, then push the two shock absorbers into the tub. Secure the shocks with the upper retaining pins.
Step 56. Plug each connector into its appropriate terminal on the motor control board. Snap the wire retainer into the slot on the control board housing.
Step 57. Install the motor control board in the cabinet, then apply the Philips screws to secure it. Snap the wire retainer into the motor housing.
Step 58. Plug the wire connector into the drive motor. Carefully mount the motor under the tub, then secure it by tightening the 5/16 inch bolts.
Step 59. With the grooved side turned inwards, loop the drive belt around the drive pulley and motor pulley. Rotate the pulley to ensure that the belt is properly aligned.
Step 60. Snap the rear cover onto the cabinet, then secure it by tightening the Philips screws. Push the retainer onto the drain hose, then apply the nut.
Step 61. Place the support rail on the rear cover, then tighten the screws to secure it. Reconnect the power cord’s grounding wire and connector, then snap the wire retainer into the slot on the support rail.
Step 62. Mount the front weights on the drum carefully. Secure the weights by applying the 7/16 inch bolts.
Step 63. Reconnect the inlet tube to the port at the top of the door boot seal. Secure the tube using a zip-tie.
Step 64. Push the light assembly into the opening on the door boot seal. Lift the front panel, then carefully mount it on the cabinet.
Step 65. Use your Philips screwdriver to tighten the nuts at the top of the front panel. With someone assisting you, tip your appliance backwards carefully and support it.
Step 66. Apply the screws at the bottom of the front panel. Lower the machine to the floor. Open the door of the machine.
Step 67. Fit the door seal around the front panel. Use your flat-blade screwdriver to fit the retaining wire around the seal.
Step 68. Plug the door switch wire connector behind the front panel. Reconnect the user interface wire connector to the control panel.
Step 69. Mount the control panel onto the front of the cabinet, then tighten the screws at the top to secure it.
Step 70. Push the dispenser assembly against the control panel. Tighten the screws on the control panel next to the dispenser’s opening. Push the soap tray into the housing.
Step 80. Remount the top cover on the cabinet. Push the panel forwards, then apply the screws at the back to secure it.
Step 81. Connect the water supply hoses to the corresponding ports on the machine. Plug the appliance into the electrical outlet.
Step 82. To find out of your AEG washing machine is making noise, try running a spin cycle.
Note: Depending on the model of your washing machine, some of the steps above will be a bit different.
