Bosch Washing Machine Knocking Around During Spin Cycle — How To Fix

If your Bosch washing machine knocks around during spin cycles, here are the issues to look for…

1. Legs Are Unbalanced

In order to prevent your machine from knocking around during spin cycles, ensure that the washer sits on a firm, even surface. If you notice that the legs are unbalanced, tilt the washer backwards and adjust the legs as needed (not all models may give you this option).

2. Damaged Suspension Spring

The suspension spring holds the tub to the cabinet. If one of the springs gets damaged, your machine will become unbalanced. Take the following steps to replace this part…

Step 1. Turn off your machine’s water supply faucet and disconnect the power cord from the outlet before starting this repair.

Step 2. With your Torx screwdriver, loosen the bolts holding the rear panel to the cabinet. Pull the panel upwards, then lift it off the machine.

Step 3. Take the drive belt off the two pulleys and set it aside. Unplug the wire harness attached to the motor assembly.

Step 4. Use a socket wrench loosen the bolts holding the drive motor to the bottom of the tub. Lift the motor out of the machine and set it aside.

Step 7. Slide the soap tray out and press the tab inside to release it from the housing. With your Torx screwdriver, loosen the bolts holding the control panel to the cabinet.

Step 8. Pry the panel off the cabinet, then disconnect the electrical connectors attached to the panel (ensure that you note where each connector goes).

Step 9. Pry the lower front access panel off the machine, then set it aside. Open your washer’s door.

Step 10. With your screwdriver, loosen the screws holding the door lock to the machine. Pry the retaining band off the door gasket using a flat-blade screwdriver.

Step 14. Take your new washing machine suspension spring out of its packaging. Attach the spring to the tub assembly. Lift the new spring and hook it onto the cabinet.

Step 15. Put the front and top counter-weight back onto the tub. Use your 13mm socket wrench to apply the bolts.

Step 16. Lift the front panel and mount it back on the cabinet. Apply the bolts at the top and bottom of the panel using your Torx screwdriver.

Step 17. Snap the machine’s lower front access panel back on. Open the door and push the lock assembly back into place. Use your screwdriver to apply the screws to the door lock.

Step 18. Fit the door gasket around the panel. Use a pair of needle-nosed pliers to loop the retaining band around the gasket.

Step 19. Go to the back of the machine and mount the motor onto the tub. To secure the motor assembly, apply the bolts using your socket wrench. Reconnect the wire harness to the motor.

Step 20. With the grooved side turned inwards, loop the drive belt over the motor pulley and drive pulley.

Step 21. Put the rear panel onto the cabinet, then apply the screws with your Torx screwdriver.

Step 22. Plug the wire harnesses to the appropriate terminals on the control panel. Snap the panel onto the cabinet, then apply the screws using your Torx screwdriver.

Step 23. Slide the soap tray back into the housing. Place the top panel on the cabinet, then secure it by applying the screws at the back.

Step 10. Prepare your new washing machine shock absorber for installation by removing it from its packaging.

Step 11. Push the new shock absorber into the mounts, then apply the upper and lower bolts using your 13mm socket wrench.

Step 12. Lift the front panel and mount it on the machine. With your Torx screwdriver, tighten the lower and upper mounting bolts.

Step 13. Snap your washer’s lower front access panel back on. Open the door and push the door lock back in place. With your screwdriver, apply the door lock screws.

Step 14. Fit the door gasket around the panel and secure it using the retaining band. Reconnect each plug to its appropriate terminal on the control board.

Step 15. Snap the control panel onto the cabinet, then apply the screws using your Torx screwdriver.

Step 16. Slide the detergent dispenser into the housing. Place the top panel on the machine, then apply the bolts at the back.

Step 17. Reconnect your washing machine to the electrical outlet and turn the water supply valve back on. Try running a spin cycle to make sure the problem has been fixed.

4. Damaged Spider Support Arm

Take the following steps to replace a damaged spider support arm in your Bosch washing machine…

Step 6. Pry the retaining band off the door boot seal using a pair of needle-nosed pliers or a flat-blade screwdriver (take care not to puncture the seal).

Step 7. Use your screwdriver to remove the bolts securing the top panel. Slide the panel backwards about an inch or so, then lift it off the machine.

Step 8. Pull the detergent drawer out of the dispenser and set it aside. Loosen the screws holding the control panel to the front of the machine using a Torx screwdriver.

Step 9. Pry the control panel off of the front of the machine using a flat-blade. Note the positioning of the electrical connectors attached to the control board, then unplug each one.

Step 10. Set the control panel aside. With your Torx screwdriver, take out the nuts at the bottom and top of the front panel. Pull the panel upwards, then lift it off the cabinet.

Step 12. Spread a rag underneath the tub. Use your screwdriver to loosen the screw-clamp holding the sump hose to the tub. Pull the hose off the tub port (some water will spill out).

Step 13. Loosen the counter-weights at the front and top of the tub using a 13mm socket. Lift each weight off the machine and set them aside.

Step 14. Unplug the electrical connectors attached to the heating element at the bottom of the tub (be sure to remember where each connector goes).

Step 15. Use a 10mm socket to loosen the bolt securing the element. Slide the heating element out of the housing and set it aside.

Step 16. Squeeze the clamp on the detergent dispenser hose attached to the tub, then slide it out of place. Pull the hose off the port.

Step 17. Release the air pressure tube from the retainer at the side of the tub. With a 13mm socket wrench, take out the upper mounting bolts holding the two shock absorbers to the tub. Pull the shocks off the tub mounts and set them aside.

Step 18. Lift the two suspension springs off the tub. Lower the tub assembly and detach the hooks.

Step 19. Carefully guide the tub assembly out of the cabinet. Use a flat-blade screwdriver to pry the inner retaining wire off the door gasket. Peel the gasket off the drum, then set it aside.

Step 20. Using a Torx screwdriver, loosen the screws holding the two halves of the tub together. Lift the front half of the outer tub off the assembly, then set it aside.

Step 21. Turn the tub assembly over. Use a socket wrench to loosen the bolt holding the drive pulley to the bottom of the tub. Take the pulley off, then set it aside.

Step 22. Turn the tub over. Lift the inner tub out of the assembly and turn it upside-down.

Step 23. Use a 10mm socket wrench to loosen the six bolts holding the spider support arm to the inner tub. Pry the spider arm off the tub and discard it.

Step 24. Remove your new spider support arm from its packaging. Mount the spider arm on the outer tub, then apply the six bolts using your 10mm socket wrench.

Step 25. Turn the inner tub over and lower it into the rear half of the outer tub. Turn the tub assembly over and put the drive pulley on the shaft. Apply the bolt using your socket wrench.

Step 26. Fit the door gasket around the drum opening. Fit the inner retaining wire around the gasket.

Step 27. Connect the two suspension springs to the tub. Guide the tub assembly back into the cabinet. Lift the tub and hook the springs onto the cabinet.

Step 28. Snap the two shock absorbers into the mounts at the bottom of the tub. Use your 13mm socket wrench to apply the bolts.

Step 29. Slide the heating element into the housing on the tub, then apply the bolt using your 10mm socket wrench.

Step 30. Connect each plug to its appropriate terminal on the heating element. Reconnect the detergent dispenser hose to the port at the top of the drum and secure it with the spring clamp.

Step 31. Mount the drive motor onto the tub, then apply the bolts using your socket wrench. Reconnect the wire harness to the motor assembly.

Step 32. Loop the drive belt around the drive pulley and motor pulley (ensure that the grooved side is turned inwards).

Step 33. Snap the rear cover onto the cabinet, the use your Torx screwdriver to apply the bolts.

Step 34. Reattach the sump hose to the port at the bottom of the tub assembly. Secure the hose by tightening the screw-clamp.

Step 35. Mount the counter-weights onto the front and top of the tub assembly, then apply the bolts using your 13mm socket wrench.

Step 36. Snap the air pressure tube back into the retainer. Lift the front panel and mount it on the cabinet. With your Torx screwdriver, apply the screws at the top and bottom of the panel.

Step 37. Snap the lower front panel onto the machine. Reconnect each wire harness to its appropriate terminal on the control panel.

Step 38. Snap the panel onto the machine, then use your screwdriver to apply the bolts. Slide the detergent tray into the dispenser.

Step 39. Mount the top panel on the cabinet, then apply the screws at the back using your Torx screwdriver.

Step 40. Push the door lock back into place an apply the screws to secure it. Fit the door gasket around the panel. Fit the retaining band around the gasket using a flat-blade screwdriver.

Step 41. Turn your machine’s water supply faucet back on, then plug the power cord back into the outlet. To ensure that the problem has been fixed, try running a spin cycle.
