Step 1. Never attempt any repairs on your washing machine without turning off its power and water supply first (this is to avoid water leakage and electrocution)

Step 2. Go to the back of your washing machine and disconnect the water inlet hoses (make sure to keep a rag nearby in case water spills).

Step 3. Use your screwdriver to remove the screws at the back of the washing machine holding the control panel.

Step 4. Slide the control panel sideways and detach it from your washing machine.

Step 5. The water inlet valve will be mounted on the control panel bracket. Disconnect each of the solenoid wires from the water inlet valve.

Step 6. Use a pair of pliers to press the clamp on the hose connected to the water inlet valve and slide the hose out of place.

Step 7. Remove the mounting screws holding the water inlet valve to your washing machine with a screwdriver.

Do the following to replace a damaged water inlet valve in your GE front loader washing machine…

Step 2. Go to the back of your washing machine and disconnect the water inlet hoses (keep a rag nearby in case water spills).

Step 3. Use a Philips screwdriver to remove the screws at the back of your washing machine holding the top panel.

If you want to replace the defective drain pump in your GE front loader washing machine, do the following…

Step 2. Use a Philips screwdriver to take out the three screws holding the lower front panel of your washing machine.

Step 3. Pull the panel out of the washing machine.

Step 4. Place a towel under the hoses connected to the drain pump to catch any water leaks.

Step 5. Use a pair of pliers to press the clamps holding the two hoses to the drain pump assembly and slide them out of place.

Step 6. Detach the tub-to-pump hose and the outlet hose from the drain pump assembly.

2.Damaged/Worn Tub Seal

Do the following to replace a worn tub seal in your GE top loader washing machine…

Step 1. Always make sure to turn off your washing machine’s water and power supply before attempting any repairs in order to avoid electrocution or water damage.

Step 2. Disconnect the water inlet hoses from the back of your washing machine.

Step 3. Use your screwdriver to take out the screws at the back of the control panel.

Step 4. Slide the control panel sideways to detach it from the main top of your washing machine.

Step 5. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the main control panel and set the panel aside.

Step 6. Insert a putty knife under the main top panel of your washing machine to release the clips holding the front section of your washer.

Step 7. Detach the main front panel and set it aside.

Step 8. Remove the screws at the front of your washing machine holding the main top panel with your screwdriver.

Step 9. Slide the top panel forward a bit and lift it up slightly.

Step 10. Reach under the top panel and use a pair of pliers to squeeze the lid switch wire retainer to release it from the washer’s cabinet.

Step 11. Open the lid of your washing machine.

Step 12. Squeeze the tab on the lid switch and pull it through the opening at the top of the washing machine. Turn the switch sideways and push it back through the opening to fully detach it from the top panel.

Step 13. Lift the main top panel off the washing machine and set it aside.

Step 14. Use your screwdriver to take out the screws holding the control panel bracket, trim, and rear panel.

Step 15. Use a pair of pliers to carefully detach the air pressure tub from the water pressure switch.

Step 16. Set the control panel bracket aside.

Step 17. Use your screwdriver to take out the screws holding the shock dampening straps and pull the straps from the tub cover.

Step 18. Release the tabs at the bottom of the tub cover and pull the cover off.

Step 19. Lift the soap dispenser cap and rotate the dispenser cup counterclockwise to take it out of the drum.

Step 20. Take out the agitator bolt using a 7/16 inch socket wrench.

Step 21. Pull the agitator out of the washing machine’s tub.

Step 22. Pull off the drive block and washer.

Step 23. Use a 1-11/16 inch tub nut wrench to take out the nut at the center of the washer’s drum (rotate the wrench clockwise).

Step 24. Lift the inner tub off the drive shaft and set it aside.

Step 25. Take out the split ring on the drive shaft with a flat-blade screwdriver.

Step 26. Lift the washer nut off the drive shaft.

Step 27. Pry the old tub seal from the drive shaft using two flat-blade screwdrivers.

Step 28. Get your new tub seal out of its pack.

Step 29. Apply some liquid dish soap to the outer rim of the new tub seal and push the seal in place on the drive shaft.

Step 30. Put the washer nut and split ring back on the drive shaft.

Step 31. Put the inner tub back in place on the drive shaft.

Step 32. Put the tub nut back on the drive shaft and secure it with the wrench by turning it counterclockwise.

Step 33. Put the washer nut and drive block back on the agitator shaft.

Step 34. Put the agitator back inside the washing machine’s tub. Secure the agitator by applying the bolt.

Step 35. Put the dispenser cup back in place and turn it clockwise to secure it.

Step 36. Snap the tub cover back in place.

Step 37. Put the shock dampening straps back on and apply the screws to secure.

Step 38. Put the control panel bracket back in place and apply the screws to secure.

Step 39. Reconnect the air pressure tube to the water pressure switch.

Step 40. Put the control panel trim back in place and secure by applying the screws.

Step 41. Put the rear panel back on and apply the screws to secure.

Step 42. Insert the lid switch through the hole in the main top and snap it in place.

Step 43. Snap the wire retainer into the frame.

Step 44. Slide the main top panel back on and apply the screws at the front to secure it.

Step 45. Snap the main front panel of your washing machine back in place.

Step 46. Reconnect the electrical connectors to the control board.

Step 47. Put the control board back in place and secure it by applying the screws at the back.

Step 48. Connect the water inlet hoses back to the ports at the back of your washing machine.

Step 49. Turn on your washing machine’s water and power supply and run a wash cycle to ensure that everything is working properly.

GE Washing Machine Leaking From Door — Fixed

If your GE washing machine is leaking from the door, you’ll need to replace the door boot seal. Here’s how to do this…

Step 1. Avoid water leakage and electrocution by turning off your washing machine’s water and power supply before attempting any repairs.

Step 2. Use a Philips screwdriver to take out the three screws holding the trim at the front of the washing machine’s top panel.

Step 3. Detach the trim piece from the washing machine’s top panel.

Step 4. Take out the three screws at the back of the top panel with a 7mm nut driver.

Step 5. Slide the top panel back about a few inches and lift it off the washing machine.

Step 6. Pull out the soap dispenser and press the tab inside it to take it out completely.

Step 7. Take out the screw at the left side of the detergent drawer housing with a Philips screwdriver.

Step 8. Use your screwdriver to take out the two screws on each corner of the washing machine’s control panel.

Step 9. Pry the control panel off the washing machine and set it on the cabinet frame.

Step 10. Using a Philips screwdriver, take out the three screws at the lower front panel of your washing machine.

Step 11. Open the door of your washing machine and use a Philips screwdriver to take out the three screws holding the door lock assembly of your washing machine.

Step 12. Wedge a flat-blade screwdriver under the retaining wire around the door boot seal and work your way around until you can take the whole wire off.

Step 13. Tuck the door boot seal completely into the door opening.

Step 14. Close the door of your washing machine and use your Philips screwdriver to take out the screws on each corner of the washing machine’s front panel.

Step 15. Detach the main front panel from the washing machine cabinet and set it aside.

Step 16. Carefully disconnect the little tube and water inlet pipe from the door boot seal.

Step 17. Pull the flat plastic washer off the little port on the door boot seal and push the tube through the opening. Set the tube and washer aside for the new door seal.

Step 18. Use your Philips screwdriver to take out the screw that tightens the inner retaining clamp.

Step 19. Pull the entire door boot seal off the tub’s opening.

Step 20. Get your new door seal out of its pack.

Step 21. Install the new door seal in your washing machine’s tub (ensure that the new seal is properly lined up with the tubes at the top).

Step 22. Fit the inner retaining band around the new door boot seal and tighten the screw holding it with your Philips screwdriver.

Step 23. Push the little tube from the old seal into the hole at the top on the new one and put the plastic washer on top of it.

Step 24. Connect the little hose to the port at the top of the door boot seal.

Step 25. Connect the water inlet pipe to the appropriate opening on the new door boot seal.

Step 26. Put the main front panel of your washing machine back on and apply the four Philips screws to secure it.

Step 27. Open the door of your washing machine.

Step 28. Reach behind the door boot seal and put the door lock assembly back in position (apply the three Philips screws to secure it).

Step 29. Fit the new door boot seal around the door opening and fit the retaining wire around the new door boot seal (you’ll probably need a flat-blade screwdriver to do this, since it’s a tight fit).

Step 30. Put the lower front panel of your washing machine back on and apply the three Philips screws to secure.

Step 31. Snap the control panel back in place and apply the four screws on the corners to secure it.

Step 32. Apply the screw next to the detergent drawer housing and push the detergent drawer back in place.

Step 33. Put the top panel of your washing machine back on and slide it back in place (reapply the three 7mm nuts at the back with a nut driver to secure the panel).

Step 34. Put the trim piece back on and apply the screws to secure.

Step 35. Turn on your washing machine’s water and power supply and try running a wash cycle to ensure that everything works properly.
