Washing Machine Dryer Not Spinning — How To Fix

Is your washing machine dryer not spinning? If so, check for the following issues…

1. Drive Belt Is Broken

Your dryer will not spin if the belt around the drum is broken. Here’s what you’ll need to do to replace a broken drive belt….

Step 1. It is recommended that you unplug your dryer from its power supply before starting any repairs in order to prevent any chances of electrocution.

Step 2. Using a nut driver, take out the three nuts at the back of your dryer holding the top panel. Slide the panel backwards and lift it off your washing machine. Use a Philips screwdriver to take out the screws on each top corner of the control panel.

Step 3. Pull the control panel off the dryer and lay it on top of the cabinet (the electrical connectors will still be attached). Pull the lower front panel off your dryer and set it aside.

Step 4. Open the door of your dryer and peel the door seal away from the opening. Use your Philips screwdriver to take out the screws holding the door hinge to the dryer frame. Pull the door off and set it aside.

Step 5. Use your Philips screwdriver to remove the eight screws holding the main front panel of your dryer in place. Pull the panel out of place slightly and disconnect the electrical connectors attached to the door lock. Set the main front panel aside.

Step 6. Take out the screws at the lower front section of your dryer and pull the fan cover off. Reach inside the fan housing and pull out the small plastic cover on the fan.

Step 7. Use a nut driver with an extension to take out the nut at the center of the fan. Pull the fan out of your dryer and set it aside. Pull out the top cover of the fan housing and set it aside.

Step 8. Take out the screws holding the front drum support with a nut driver (make sure to disconnect the electrical connect at the front first). Pull the front drum support off the dryer and set it aside.

Step 9. Pull the broken drive belt off the drum and take your new one out of its packaging. Fit the new drive belt around the drum. Fit the belt under the motor shaft and over the pulley wheels beside the drum (the belt should form a V shape).

Step 10. Rotate the drum to make sure that the belt is properly aligned. Put the fan housing cover back on and snap it in to place. Push the fan into the housing and apply the nut with your socket extension to secure it.

Step 11. Put the small plastic ring back onto the fan. Put the fan housing cover back on and apply the screws with a screwdriver to secure it.

Step 12. Connect the electrical connectors back to the door lock assembly and snap the main front panel of your dryer back on. Apply the eight screws to secure it. Snap the lower front panel of your dryer back into place.

Step 13. Fit the door seal back around the door opening. Realign the door assembly with the front of your dryer and apply the screws on the door hinge to secure it. Close the door of your washing machine.

Step 14. Snap the control panel back to the cabinet and apply the two screws at thte top corners to secure it. Put the top panel of your washing machine back on and secure it by applying the three nuts at the back. Plug your washing machine back to its power outlet and run a spin cycle to see if the issue has been resolved.

2. Damaged Drum Bearing

Here’s what you’ll need to do to replace the bearing in your washing machine dryer…

Step 1. In order to avoid electrocution, make sure to unplug your washing machine dryer from its power outlet before starting any repairs.

Step 2. Open the door of your washing machine dryer. Pull the lower front access panel off the machine and set it aside. Turn the knobs on the condenser unit and pull it out of the dryer. Pull the water unit out of the bottom section of your dryer.

Step 3. Use a screwdriver to remove the screws at the back of your dryer machine holding the top panel. Slide the top panel backwards a bit and lift it off your dryer.

Step 4. Take out the screws on each top corner of the control panel using a screwdriver. Disconnect all the electrical connectors attached to the control panel (make sure to take note of where each electrical connector goes). set the control panel aside.

Step 5. Use a Philips screwdriver to take out the four screws around your dryer’s door opening. Unscrew the four screws holding the main front panel of your dryer machine.

Step 6. Peel the door seal away from the door opening and set it aside. Take out the two screws holding the door hinge to your dryer’s front panel. Carefully pull the entire front panel out of place.

Step 7. Disconnect the door lock electrical connector from the main front panel. Set the front panel aside. Disconnect the NTC sensor electrical connector from the front drum cover.

Step 8. Take out all the screws holding the drum cover in place. Pull the drum cover off the dryer and set it aside. Go to the back of your dryer machine and use a Philips screwdriver to remove screws holding the heater cover. Pull the panel off and set it aside.

Step 9. Use your screwdriver to remove the screws holding the bearing cover at the back of your machine. Take out the two screws holding the heater to the back of the dryer machine. Set the heater assembly aside.

Step 10. Use your Philips screwdriver to remove the screws directly above and directly below the bearing hole.

Step 11. Go back to the front of your machine. Reach inside the cabinet and push the idler pulley to release the tension on the drive belt. Pull the drive belt off the pulley wheels.

Step 12. Carefully pull the drive belt off the drum. Pull the drum out of your machine’s cabinet. Turn the drum upside-down and lay it on the floor.

Step 13. Use a pair of needle-nosed pliers to pull out the clip in the bearing hole. Lift the plate off the back of the drum.

Step 14. Use a Philips screwdriver to take out the screws holding the metal ring on the plate housing the bearing. Use a screwdriver to knock the bearing out of the ring.

Step 15. Take your new bearing out of its packaging and fit it into the ring. Secure the ring to the drum plate by applying the two screws. Put the plate back onto the shaft on the rear of the drum. Push the metal ring in place with the needle-nosed pliers to secure the plate.

Step 16. Reach inside the fan housing and pull out the plastic trim from the fan blades. Use a nut driver with an extension to take out the nut securing the housing. Pull the fan blades out of the housing.

Step 17. Pull the fan housing cover forwards and lift it out of place. Pull the belt out of your dryer.

Step 18. Carefully lift the drum back into the dryer. Fit the drive belt around the drum and motor shaft.

Step 19. Go to the back of your dryer. Carefully lift and rotate the drum so that the bearing lines up with the opening at the back of the cabinet. Put in a screw to hold the drum in place temporarily.

Step 20. Insert the screws into the holes directly above and below the bearing opening and tighten them with a Philips screwdriver. Take out the temporary support screw.

Step 21. Put the heater assembly back on and apply the two screws with your Philips screwdriver to secure it. Put the heater housing cover back on and apply all the screws with your screwdriver to secure it.

Step 22. Put the bearing cover back on and apply the screws to secure it. Go back to the front of your machine.

Step 23. Fit the drive belt over the two pulley wheels (make sure that the belt forms a V shape. Rotate the drum a bit to align the belt fully.

Step 24. Put the fan housing cover back on and push it backwards to snap it into place. Put the fan back into the housing and apply the bolt with your nut driver to secure it. Put the plastic trim back into the fan housing.

Step 25. Put the front drum cover back on and apply all the screws to secure it. Rotate the drum a bit to make sure it is fully aligned. Pass the NTC sensor connector back through the opening on the drum cover and connect it back to the sensor.

Step 26. Put the water unit and condenser unit back in place. Connect the door lock electrical connector back to the main front panel. Snap the front panel onto the machine and apply all the screws to secure it.

Step 27. Fit the door seal back around the door opening. Connect each electrical connector to its appropriate terminal on the control panel. Snap the control panel onto the cabinet and apply the two screws to secure it.

Step 28. Put the lower front access panel back on. Put your machine’s top panel back on and apply the screws at the back to secure it. Plug your washing machine dryer back to its power supply and run a cycle to ensure that everything is working properly.

3. Faulty Capacitor

Do the following to replace the capacitor in your washing machine dryer…

Step 1. It is recommended that you unplug your dryer from its power outlet before starting any repairs in order to prevent any chances of electrocution.

Step 2. Carefully tilt your machine backwards and get someone to help you support it. Unscrew the two front legs underneath your dryer. Take out the three screws under the front panel of your dryer.

Step 3. Lower your washing machine back to the floor. Go to the back of your dryer and take out the three screws at the back holding the top panel with a Philips screwdriver. Slide the top panel, backwards and lift it off the machine.

Step 4. Use a Philips screwdriver to take out the screws on each top corner on the control panel. Detach the control panel from the front of the machine and lay it on top of the cabinet (the electrical connections will still be attached to the panel).

Step 5. Open the door of your machine. Peel the door seal away from the door opening. Use a screwdriver to take out the two screws holding the door assembly to the front of the machine. Pull the door and hinge assembly off and set it aside.

Step 6. Use your Philips screwdriver to remove the four screws around the door opening. Take out the two screws at the top of the front panel of your dryer machine.

Step 7. Pull the main front panel of the machine out of place and disconnect the door lock electrical connector. Pull the panel off the machine and set it aside.

Step 8. Use a Philips screwdriver to take out the four screws holding the drum front cover in place. Tilt the machine backwards once more and take out the additional screw underneath holding the drum cover.

Step 9. Take out the two screws under the NTC sensor wires. Disconnect the thermostat and NTC sensor wire connectors (make sure to take note of where each connector goes).

Step 10. Lower your machine to the floor. Carefully pry the front cover off the drum and set it aside. Pull the vent tube out of the cabinet and set it aside.

Step 11. Clean out any dust and dirt that may have accumulated in the cabinet. The capacitor is mounted next to the right pulley wheel. You will need to discharge the capacitor before it is safe to handle. Use a 13mm nut driver to take out the bolt holding it.

Step 12. Carefully turn the capacitor (make sure your hand doesn’t touch the drum when doing this). Rub the two contacts on the capacitor on the drum (this will discharge the capacitor).

Step 13. Disconnect the two electrical connectors at the top of the capacitor. Set the old capacitor aside (make sure to read the description on the capacitor to make sure it matches with the new capacitor).

Step 14. Connect the electrical connectors to the new capacitor. Put the new capacitor in place next to the pulley wheel and apply the bolt to secure it.

Step 15. Put the vent tube and cover back in place and tilt the machine backwards to apply the screw at the bottom to secure them.

Step 16. Put the drum front cover back on and apply all the screws at the front to secure it. Reconnect the NTC sensor and thermostat wire connectors.

Step 17. Connect the door lock electrical connector back to the front panel. Put the front panel back onto the machine and apply the two screws at the top to secure it. Apply the four screws around the door opening.

Step 18. Snap the control panel back in place and apply the two screws on the top corners to secure it. Fit the door boot seal around the door opening.

Step 19. Tilt your washing machine backwards and apply the two screws at the bottom to secure the front panel. Put the two front legs back in place under the dryer machine. Lower the dryer.

Step 20. Put the door assembly back onto the front of the machine and apply the two screws to secure it. Close the door of your washing machine.

Step 21. Slide the top panel of your machine back on and apply the screws at the back to secure it. Plug your dryer machine back to its power supply and run a spin cycle to see if the issue has been resolved.

Washing Machine Dryer Not Heating — Solved

Is your washing machine dryer not heating? If so, you’ll need to replace the heater element. Here’s how to do this…

Step 1. It is recommended that you unplug your dryer from its power supply before starting any repairs in order to prevent any chances of electrocution.

Step 2. Insert a tool such as a putty knife under the main top panel of your dryer to release the two retaining clips. Lift the top panel and support it. Disconnect the door lock wires connectors from inside the dryer cabinet.

Step 3. Take out the screws holding the main front panel of your dryer. Lift the front panel up and detach it from the dryer cabinet. Go to the back of your machine and remove the screws holding the lower access panel.

Step 4. Pull the panel off and set it aside. Reach inside the cabinet and pull the idler pulley to release the tension on the drum belt. Pull the belt off the motor shaft and pulley.

Step 5. Carefully lift the drum out of your machine’s cabinet. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the thermostat inside the cabinet at the rear. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the heating element.

Step 6. Use a screwdriver to take out the screws at the back of your dryer securing the heating element to the cabinet. Pull the heating element out of the cabinet and set it aside.

Step 7. Take your new heating element out of its packaging. Position the new heating element on the rear panel and apply the screws at the back of the cabinet to secure it. Connect the electrical connectors to the new heating element and thermostat.

Step 8. Lift the drum back into the cabinet. Reach inside the machine through the opening at the back and and pull the pulley back. Fit the drive belt around the motor shaft and idler pulley. To properly align the belt, rotate the drum.

Step 9. Put the rear access panel back on and apply the screw at the back with your screwdriver to secure it. Snap the main front panel back into place and apply the screws to secure it.

Step 10. Connect the electrical connectors back to the door switch. Lower your dryer’s main top panel and snap it into place.

Step 11. Plug your dryer back to its power supply and try running a spin cycle to see if the issue has been fixed.

How To Replace Washing Machine Dryer Drive Motor — Quick Fix

Do the following to replace the drive motor in your washing machine dryer…

Step 2. Use a Philips screwdriver to remove the screws at the back of your dryer holding the top panel. Slide the top panel backwards and lift it off your machine.

Step 3. Release the locking tabs holding the control panel to the front of the machine. Detach the panel from your machine and disconnect the electrical from the control panel.

Step 4. Open the door of your dryer. Use a Philips screwdriver to take out the screws at the bottom of the door opening. Close the door of your machine.

Step 5. Take out the four screws at the top of the front panel. Pull the front panel off the machine and disconnect the door lock electrical connector. Set the front panel aside.

Step 6. Use a Philips screwdriver to take out the four screws holding the control panel mounting bracket. Disconnect the light bulb socket electrical connector. Pull the control panel mounting bracket off the machine and set it aside.

Step 7. Use your Philips screwdriver to remove the screw holding the blower housing. Disconnect the moisture sensor electrical connector. Take out the four screws holding the bulkhead to the front of the drum.

Step 8. Lift the bulkhead off the drum and set it aside. Reach inside the cabinet and push the idler pulley to release the tension on the drive belt. Pull the belt off the pulleys.

Step 9. Carefully lift the drum out of your dryer’s cabinet. Use a Philips screwdriver to take out the two screws holding the plastic fitting to the blower housing and pull it off.

Step 10. Use a 14mm socket wrench to take out the bolt holding the blower wheel. Pull the blower wheel out of place and set it aside.

Step 11. Disconnect the drive motor electrical connectors. Use a flat-blade screwdriver to release the two clamps holding the motor assembly. Pull the clamps off the motor and set them aside.

Step 12. Lift the drive motor out of place and set it aside. Take your new drive motor assembly out of its packaging. Put the new drive motor in place (feed the motor shaft through the blower opening).

Step 13. Snap the two motor clamps onto the new drive motor. Connect the electrical connectors of the new motor assembly.

Step 14. Put the blower on the motor shaft and apply the bolt to secure it. Put the blower fitting back on and apply the two screws to secure it.

Step 15. Lift the motor assembly into the cabinet. Loop the drive belt around the motor shaft and pulley wheels. Attach the bulkhead back to the front of the drum and apply the screws to secure it.

Step 16. Put the blower housing cover back on and apply the screw to secure it. Connect the moisture sensor wire connector. Connect the light bulb socket electrical connector.

Step 17. Put the control panel support bracket back on and apply the screws to secure it. Connect the door lock back to the electrical connector.

Step 18. Put the main front panel of your washing machine back on and apply all the screws to secure it. Open the door of your machine and apply the two screws under the door opening. Close the door of your dryer.

Step 19. Connect the control panel electrical connectors. Snap the control panel back in place. Slide the top panel back in place and apply the screws at the back to secure.

Step 20. Plug your washing machine back to its power outlet and try running a spin cycle to see if the issue has been resolved.
