Step 4. Take out the nuts securing the upper and lower braces to the back of the cabinet. Lift each brace off the cabinet and set aside.

Step 5. Go to the front of the machine, then slide the soap tray out of the dispenser. Press the little tab inside the tray to release it from the housing.

Step 6. Use your Torx screwdriver to take out the nut next to the dispenser opening on the control panel.

Step 7. Pry the control panel off the mounting bracket. Disconnect the control panel’s wire connector from the control board.

Step 8. Release the control panel wires from the retaining bracket on the cabinet. Pull the control panel assembly out of the machine.

Step 9. Open the door of your washing machine. Using your Torx screwdriver, take out the bolts securing the door lock to the front panel.

Step 10. Using a flat-blade screwdriver, carefully pry the retaining wire off the door boot seal (take care not to damage the seal). Peel the door gasket off the front panel.

Step 11. With your Torx screwdriver, take out the bolts at the bottom of the lower front access panel. Pry the panel off the cabinet and set it aside.

Step 12. Loosen the nuts at the top and bottom of the main front panel. Lift the panel off the cabinet carefully, then set it aside.

Step 13. Release the inlet tube from the port at the top of the door boot seal. With your Torx screwdriver, take out the bolts securing the top frame brace. Release the little tube from the brace, then set the brace aside.

Step 14. Pull the dispenser hose off the port at the top of the drum. Move the dispenser assembly out of place.

Step 15. Loosen the bolt holding the inner retaining clamp to the door seal using a 7mm socket. Pry the door seal off the drum opening.

Step 16. Take out the bolts securing the upper and lower weights to the front of the drum using a 13mm socket wrench. Lift each weight off the machine and set it aside.

Step 17. Go to the back of the machine, then take out the bolts securing the rear weight. Lift the weight off the machine and set it aside.

Step 18. Unhook the drive belt from the motor pulley and idler pulley at the back of the tub. Loosen the bolts securing the drive pulley to the tub using a 24mm socket wrench. Take the pulley off the shaft.

Step 19. With your Torx screwdriver, take out the bolt securing the grounding wire near the bearing hub at the back of the tub.

Step 20. Disconnect the wire connectors from the drive motor. Loosen the bolts securing the motor to the tub using a 13mm socket wrench. Carefully lift the motor out of the cabinet and set it aside.

Step 21. Loosen the bolts securing the pressure chamber to the lower rear of the tub. Detach the pressure chamber from the tub.

Step 22. Place a small container underneath the emergency drain tube at the lower front of your washing machine.

Step 23. Pull the cap off the tube, then let any water stuck in the machine drain out. Once all the water has drained out of the machine, put the hose’s cap back on.

Step 24. Place a small towel on the floor underneath the tub. With a pair of pliers, release the retaining clamp securing the sump hose to the bottom of the tub. Detach the hose from the machine.

Step 25. Release the retaining clamp securing the second outlet hose to the upper rear section of the tub. Detach the hose from the machine.

Step 26. Grab each of the four shock absorbers, rotate them, then pull them out of the mounts at the bottom of the tub.

Step 27. Disconnect the thermistor wire connector at the lower front of the tub. Release the thermistor wire from the slots at the bottom of the tub.

Step 28. Using a flat-blade screwdriver, pry the wire harness retaining bracket off the cabinet. Lift the two suspension springs, then unhook them from the cabinet.

Step 29. Carefully lower the tub, then guide it out of the cabinet. Unhook the two springs from the tub assembly.

Step 30. Using a flat-blade screwdriver, pry off the retaining clips securing the two halves of the outer tub. Lift the front half of the outer tub off the assembly.

Step 31. Prepare the new outer tub for installation by unpacking it. Pull the thermistor and gasket out of the port on the old tub, then transfer to the new one.

Step 32. Lower the front half of the outer tub onto the assembly. Secure the two halves of the tub by snapping the retaining clips on.

Step 33. Attach the two suspension springs to the tub assembly. Lift the tub, then carefully guide it into the cabinet.

Step 34. Hook the two springs onto the tub cabinet. Snap the wire harness retaining bracket onto the cabinet.

Step 35. Push each shock absorber into its mount at the bottom of the tub, then rotate to secure.

Step 36. Mount the rear weight on the tub, then secure it by tightening the 13mm bolts. Remount the front weights on the drum, then secure them by applying the bolts.

Step 37. Connect the outlet hose to the port at the back of the tub, then slide the retaining clamp into place. Reattach the sump hose to the bottom of the tub, then use your pliers to move the retaining clamp.

Step 38. Mount the drive motor at the bottom of the tub, then secure it by tightening the 13mm bolts. Plug each wire harness into the motor.

Step 39. Use your Torx screwdriver to tighten the nut to secure the grounding wire near the bearing hub.

Step 40. Place the pressure chamber on the port at the lower rear of the tub, then tighten the bolts to secure.

Step 41. Mount the drive pulley on the inner tub shaft, then tighten the 24mm bolt to secure. With the grooved side turned inwards, loop the drive belt around the motor pulley and drive pulley.

Step 42. Mount the lower and upper rear braces on the cabinet, then use your Torx screwdriver to apply the nuts.

Step 43. Go to the front of your washing machine, then refit the door boot seal around the drum opening.

Step 44. Fit the inner retaining wire around the door seal, then secure it by tightening the 7mm bolt.

Step 45. Reconnect the thermistor wire harness at the lower front of the tub. Secure the thermistor wire in the slots on the tub.

Step 46. Secure the little tube in the retainer on the top frame brace. Place the brace on the cabinet, then tighten the bolts to secure it.

Step 47. Move the detergent dispenser back into place. Reconnect the dispenser hose to the port at the top of the drum.

Step 48. Carefully lift the main front panel and mount it on the cabinet. Secure the panel by applying the bolts at the top and bottom using a Torx screwdriver.

Step 49. Snap the lower front access panel onto the cabinet, then apply the nuts to secure it. Open the door of your machine.

Step 50. Reach in behind the front panel, then push the door lock assembly into place. Secure the door lock by tightening the Torx screws.

Step 51. Fit the door boot seal around the front panel. Using your flat-blade screwdriver, carefully fit the outer retaining wire around the door seal.

Step 52. Pass the control panel’s wire through the opening on the top frame brace. Secure the control panel’s wire in the retaining bracket on the cabinet.

Step 53. Plug the control panel wire into the control board. Snap the control panel onto the mounting bracket, then tighten the bolts next to the opening.

Step 54. Push the soap tray into the dispenser. Mount the top panel on the cabinet, then tighten the nuts at the back.

Step 55. Snap the rear access panel onto the cabinet. Using your Torx screwdriver, apply the bolts to secure the panel.

Step 56. Plug your washing machine back into the power outlet, then turn the COLD and HOT water supply hoses back on. Ensure that the leakage has stopped by running a wash cycle.

Rear Half

Replace the rear half of your KitchenAid washing machine’s outer tub by following the steps below…

Step 1. In order to prevent any chances of electrocution, ensure that you disconnect your washing machine from the power outlet.

Step 2. Turn the water inlet faucets off to prevent leakage. With a Torx screwdriver, loosen the bolts at the back of the machine holding the top panel.

Step 3. Pull the panel backwards about an inch or so, then lift it off the cabinet. Take out the bolts securing the rear panel. Carefully lift the rear panel off the machine and set it aside.

Step 4. Take out the bolts securing the upper and lower braces to the back of the cabinet. Lift the braces off the machine and set them aside.

Step 5. Go to the front of the machine, then slide the detergent tray out. Press the little tab inside the tray to release it from the housing.

Step 6. With your Torx screwdriver, loosen the bolt next to the dispenser opening on the control panel.

Step 7. Disconnect the control panel’s wire connector from the control board. Release the control panel wire from the retainers on the cabinet.

Step 8. Pry the control panel off the mounting bracket and set it aside. Take out the bolts securing the lower front access panel using a Torx screwdriver. Lift the panel off the machine.

Step 9. Open your washing machine’s door. Use your Torx screwdriver to take out the bolts securing the door lock to the front panel.

Step 10. Wedge a flat-blade screwdriver around the retaining wire around the door boot seal. Carefully work the screwdriver around until the wire pops off.

Step 11. Carefully pry the door seal off the front panel. Use your Torx screwdriver to take out the bolts at the top and bottom of the front panel. Lift the front panel off the cabinet and set aside.

Step 12. Detach the inlet tube from the port at the top of the door boot seal. Loosen the bolts securing the top frame brace to the front of the cabinet.

Step 13. Release the inlet tube from the retainer on the top frame brace. Set the brace aside.

Step 14. Disconnect the dispenser hose from the port at the top of the drum. Using a 7mm socket, loosen the bolt on the inner retaining band around the door seal. Pry the door boot seal off the drum opening.

Step 15. Loosen the bolts securing the lower and upper weights to the front of the drum. Carefully lift each weight off the machine and set aside.

Step 16. Go to the back of the machine, then unhook the drive belt from the motor pulley and drive pulley.

Step 17. Using a 24mm socket wrench, take out the bolt securing the drive pulley to the inner tub shaft. Slide the pulley off the shaft and set it aside.

Step 18. With a Torx screwdriver, take out the bolt securing the grounding wire near the bearing hub.

Step 19. Detach the grounding wire and wire harness from the drive motor. With a 13mm socket wrench, loosen the bolts securing the drive motor to the bottom of the tub.

Step 20. Carefully lift the motor off the tub, then set it on the cabinet floor. Take out the bolts securing the rear weight to the tub. Lift the weight off the machine and set it aside.

Step 21. With your Torx screwdriver, loosen the bolts securing the pressure chamber to the back of the tub. Detach the chamber from the back of the tub (some water may spill, so keep a rag nearby).

Step 22. Go to the front of the machine, then place a small container underneath the emergency drain tube. Pull the cap off the tube, then drain out the water stuck in the machine.

Step 23. Once you’ve drained all the water out, put the hose’s cap back in place. Use a pair of pliers to squeeze the retaining clamp securing the sump hose to the bottom of the tub.

Step 24. Detach the hose from the bottom of the machine (ensure that you keep a rag nearby to clean any leaks).

Step 25. Use your pliers to squeeze the retaining clamp securing the second outlet hose to the upper rear of the tub. Detach the hose from the machine.

Step 26. Grab the top of each of the four shock absorbers, rotate them, then detach them from the mounts at the bottom of the tub.

Step 27. Disconnect the thermistor wire harness at the lower front of the tub. Release the thermistor wire harnesss from the slots at the bottom of the tub.

Step 28. Use a flat-blade screwdriver to pry the wire harness retaining bracket off the cabinet.

Step 29. Carefully lift the two suspension springs, then unhook them from the cabinet. Lower the tub, then guide it out of the machine.

Step 30. Take the two suspension springs off the tub. Turned upwards, set the tub assembly on two supports.

Step 31. Pry off the retaining clips securing the two halves of the outer tub using a flat-blade screwdriver.

Step 32. Carefully lift the front half of the outer tub off the assembly, then set it aside.

Step 33. Lift the inner tub out of the rear half of the outer tub (if this is difficult, turn the tub over, then apply some penetrating oil to the shaft).

Step 34. Using your Torx screwdriver, take out the bolts securing the motor shield to the rear half of the outer tub.

Step 35. Prepare the new rear outer tub for installation by unpacking it. Push the provided seal into the groove of the rear half of the outer tub.

Step 36. Apply some grease to the bearings in the new outer tub. Place the motor shield on the rear half of the outer tub, then apply the bolts using your Torx screwdriver.

Step 37. Set the front half of the outer tub face-down on the floor. Lower the inner tub onto the front half of the outer tub.

Step 38. Lower the rear half of the outer tub onto the inner tub shaft. Secure the two halves of the tub by snapping the retaining clips on with a hammer.

Step 39. Set the tub assembly upright, then hook the two suspension springs on. Lift the tub assembly, then guide it back into the cabinet.

Step 40. Lift the springs, then hook them onto the cabinet. Snap the wire harness retaining bracket into cabinet.

Step 41. Lift each of the shock absorbers and push them into the mounts at the bottom of the tub. Rotate the shock absorbers to secure them.

Step 42. Mount the two front weights onto the drum, then tighten the bolts using a 13mm socket wrench.

Step 43. Carefully fit the door boot seal around the drum opening. Fit the inner retaining wire around the door seal, then tighten it by applying the 7mm bolt.

Step 44. Go to the back of the tub, then mount the rear weight. Secure the weight by tightening the 13mm bolts.

Step 45. Connect the outlet hose to the opening at the upper rear of the tub. Secure the hose by moving the spring clamp into place with pliers.

Step 46. Attach the sump hose to the bottom of the tub, then move the retaining clamp into place using pliers.

Step 47. Tighten the bolt to secure the grounding wire near the bearing hub. Place the pressure chamber at the back of the tub, then apply the nuts.

Step 48. Carefully mount the drive motor at the bottom of the tub, then secure it by tightening the 13mm bolts.

Step 49. Plug the wire harnesses into the drive motor. Place the drive pulley on the tub shaft, then tighten the 24mm bolt to secure it.

Step 50. Loop the drive belt around the two pulleys (ensure that the grooved side is facing inwards). Try rotating the belt to ensure it is properly aligned.

Step 51. Mount the lower and upper braces onto the back of the cabinet. Secure the braces by tightening the Torx screws.

Step 52. Move the detergent dispenser back into place. Push the dispenser hose back into the port at the top of the drum.

Step 53. Secure the inlet tube in the retainer on the top frame brace. Place the top frame brace on the cabinet, then tighten the bolts using your Torx screws.

Step 54. Connect the little tube to the port at the top of the door boot seal. Reconnect the wire harness to the thermistor at the lower front of the tub.

Step 55. Secure the thermistor wire in the slots at the bottom of the tub. Carefully mount the main front panel on the cabinet, then tighten the bolts using your Torx screws.

Step 56. Snap the lower access panel onto the cabinet, then apply the bolts. Open your washer’s door.

Step 57. Reach in behind the front panel, then push the door lock into place. Secure the door lock to the front panel with the Torx screws.

Step 58. Fit the door boot seal around the front panel. Fit the outer retaining wire around the seal using your flat-blade screwdriver.

Step 59. Pass the control panel’s wire through the opening on the top frame brace. Snap the control panel onto the cabinet, then apply the bolts next to the dispenser opening.

Step 60. Plug the control panel’s wire harness into the control board. Secure the control panel’s wire in the retaining bracket.

Step 61. Push the soap tray into the dispenser. Mount the top panel on the cabinet, then use your Torx screwdriver to apply the bolts at the back.

Step 62. Mount the rear panel on the cabinet, then secure it by tightening the bolts. Plug your washing machine into the power outlet.

4. KitchenAid Washing Machine Is Leaking From The Bottom — Damaged Bearing Seal (Front Loaders)

The bearing seal is mounted at the back of the outer tub above the outer bearing. If this seal gets damaged, water will leak out of the drum and damage the bearings. Follow the steps below to replace this part…

Step 1. Disconnect your washer from the power outlet and turn the water supply taps off before starting this repair in order to avoid any chances of electrocution.

Step 2. Go to the back of your machine, then loosen the bolts securing the top panel using a Torx screwdriver. Pull the top panel backwards a few inches, then lift it off the machine.

Step 3. Using your Torx screwdriver, loosen the bolts securing the rear panel to the cabinet. Lift the panel off the machine and set it aside.

Step 4. Take out the bolts securing the lower and upper braces to the back of the cabinet using a Torx screwdriver. Lift the braces off the cabinet and set it aside.

Step 5. Go to the front of the machine, then pull the soap tray out. Press the little tab in the tray to release it from the housing.

Step 6. Use your Torx screwdriver to take out the bolt next to the dispenser opening. Disconnect the control panel’s wire harness from the control board.

Step 26. Rotate the shock absorbers, then detach them from the bottom of the tub. Disconnect the thermistor wire connector at the lower front of the tub. Release the wire from the slots at the bottom of the tub.

Step 27. Using a flat-blade screwdriver, pry the wire harness retaining bracket off the cabinet. Lift the two suspension springs, then unhook them from the cabinet.

Step 28. Guide the tub assembly out of the cabinet, then take the suspension springs off. Using a flat-blade screwdriver, pry off the retaining clips securing the two halves of the outer tub.

Step 29. Lift the front half of the outer tub off the assembly and set it aside. Set the tub assembly on two supports.

Step 30. Lift the inner tub out of the rear half of the outer tub. Use a flat-blade screwdriver to pry out the old bearing seal in the tub.

Step 31. Discard the old seal, then prepare the new one for installation by unpacking it. Apply some of the provided grease to the new bearing seal.

Step 32. Push the new bearing seal into the rear half of the outer tub. Lower the inner tub into the rear half of the outer tub.

Step 41. Remount the drive motor at the bottom of the tub. Secure the drive motor by tightening the 13mm bolts. Plug each wire harness into its appropriate terminals on the motor.

Step 42. Place the pressure chamber at the lower rear of the tub, then use your Torx screwdriver to apply the bolts.

Step 43. Tighten the bolt to secure the grounding wire near the bearing hub. Place the drive pulley on the inner tub shaft. Secure the drive pulley by applying the 24mm bolt.

Step 44. With the grooved side turned inwards, loop the drive belt around the motor pulley and drive pulley.

Step 45. Place the lower and upper rear braces on the cabinet, then secure them by tightening the Torx screws.

Step 46. Go to the front of the machine, then carefully fit the door seal around the drum opening.
