Front Loaders

Take the following steps to test the drive motor in your front loader Samsung washing machine…

Step 1. Ensure that your washing machine is disconnected from the outlet before starting this procedure in order to avoid electrocution.

Step 2. Go to the back of the machine, then loosen the nuts holding the rear access panel to the cabinet using a Philips screwdriver. Pry the panel off the machine and set it aside.

Step 3. Carefully unhook the drive belt from the motor pulley and drive pulley, then set it aside. Disconnect the wire harness attached to the motor assembly.

Step 4. Loosen the screws holding the motor to the bottom of the tub using a 10mm socket wrench. Carefully lift the motor out of the cabinet.

Step 5. Get a digital multimeter, then turn the dial to the Ohms setting. Push the probes of the meter into the red terminals on the motor’s connector port. For a working connection, you should get a reading between 68 ohms and 72 ohms

Step 6. Insert the probes of the meter into the remaining terminals on the connector port. For a working connection, you should get a reading between 1 and 7 ohms. If the readings are much lower or higher than these numbers, the motor is damaged and should be replaced.

Step 11. Secure the motor shaft using an adjustable wrench. Loosen the blower wheel bolt using a 14mm socket wrench. Pull the blower wheel out of the housing, then set it aside.

Step 12. Detach the wire harness from the motor assembly. Using a flat-blade screwdriver, pry the front and rear retaining clips off the motor. Pull the drive motor out of the cabinet.

Step 13. Get a digital multimeter, then turn the dial to the Ohms setting. Push the probes of the meter into the red terminals on the motor’s connector port. For a working motor, you should get a reading between 68 and 71 ohms.

Step 14. Insert the probes of the meter into the remaining terminals, then look for a reading between 1 and 7 ohms. If the readings are significantly lower or higher than these numbers, you’ll need to replace the motor.

Step 15. Once you are sure that the drive motor is in good condition, reinstall it in the cabinet. Snap the retaining clips onto the motor.

Step 16. Plug the wire harness into the drive motor. Push the blower wheel back into place. Secure the blower by applying the bolt with your 14mm socket wrench.

Step 17. Put the cover on the blower assembly, then apply the bolts with your Philips screwdriver.

Step 18. Carefully lift the belt and drum, then guide them into the cabinet. Mount the front bulkhead on the cabinet, then tighten the screws with your Philips screwdriver.

Step 19. Plug the moisture sensor wire connector back in, then reconnect the wire harness to the light assembly. Place the control panel’s mounting bracket on the cabinet, then tighten the screws.

Step 20. Plug the wire harness to the door lock assembly on the front panel. Mount the front panel on the cabinet, then apply the screws at the top using a Philips screwdriver.

Step 21. Tighten the two screws at the bottom of the front panel. Snap the control panel onto the front of the cabinet.

2. Failed Stator

Top Loaders

Follow the steps below to test the stator in your top loader Samsung washing machine…

Step 1. In order to prevent electrocution and leakage, ensure that you disconnect your washing machine’s power cord from the outlet and turn the water taps off before starting this repair.

Step 2. Disconnect the COLD and HOT water supply hoses from the ports at the back of the machine (some water may spill out, so keep a rag nearby).

Step 3. Pull your washing machine’s drain hose out of the home drain. With someone assisting you, tip the machine forwards carefully, then set it on the floor.

Step 4. Using a 10mm socket wrench, take out the bolts holding the support bar to the bottom of the tub. Take the bar off the machine and set it aside.

Step 5. Loosen the nut holding the rotor to the tub using a 17mm socket wrench. Carefully pry the rotor off the tub, then set it aside.

Step 6. Disconnect the wire harnesses attached to the stator at the bottom of the tub (ensure that you note where each connector goes).

Step 7. Take out the bolts holding the stator to the tub with a 10mm socket. Lift the stator off the tub.

Step 8. Get a digital multimeter, then turn the dial to the Ohms setting. Push the probes of the meter into any of the three terminals on the stator. For a working stator, you should get a reading between 9 and 9.7 ohms.

Step 9. If the reading is much lower or higher than these numbers, the stator is damaged and needs to be replaced.

Step 10. If the stator’s reading came out okay, remount it at the bottom of the tub, then tighten the bolts using your 10mm socket wrench.

Step 11. Plug each wire harness into its appropriate terminal on the stator. Place the rotor over the stator, then apply the 17mm bolt.

Step 12. Mount the support bar at the bottom of the tub, then apply the bolts to secure them.

Step 13. Carefully lift your washing machine onto its feet, then reinsert the drain hose into the standpipe.

Step 11. Secure the motor shaft using an adjustable wrench, then take out the bolt holding the blower wheel using a 14mm socket wrench. Take the blower wheel out, then discard it.

Step 12. Prepare the new blower wheel for installation by taking it out of its packaging. Push the new blower into the housing, then tighten the bolt to secure it.

Step 13. Put the cover on the blower assembly, then tighten the Philips screws. Lift the belt and drum, then carefully guide them into the cabinet.

Step 14. Reach underneath the drum, then loop the drive belt around the idler pulley and motor pulley in a zig-zag formation. Rotate the drum by hand a bit to ensure tha the belt is properly aligned.

Step 15. Lift the front bulkhead and mount it on the drum. Secure the bulkhead by applying the Philips screws.

Step 16. Plug the moisture sensor wire connector and drum light wire connector back in. Place the control panel mounting bracket on the cabinet, then apply the nuts.

Step 17. Plug the wire connector into the door lock. Mount the front panel on the cabinet, then tighten the screws at the top using your screwdriver.

Step 18. Open the door of your washer, then tighten the screws at the bottom of the front panel.

Step 19. Plug the wire harness into the control panel, then snap the panel onto the cabinet.

Step 20. Mount the top panel on the cabinet, then apply the bolts at the back using a Philips screwdriver. Plug your washer back into the outlet, then try running a cycle.
