1. Burnt Control Board
If your Whirlpool washing machine isn’t washing, the first thing you should do is check for a burnt control board. The steps below show you how to do this…
Front Loaders
To check the control board in your front loader Whirlpool washing machine, take the following steps…
Step 1. In order to avoid any chances of electrical damage, make sure to unplug your appliance from the outlet before starting this procedure.
Step 2. Use a 1/4 inch nut-driver to remove the three screws at the back of the machine holding the top panel. Slide the top backwards about an inch or so, then lift it off the cabinet.
Step 3. Pry the plastic cover off the control board. Note the positioning of the connectors attached to the control board, then disconnect each one.
Step 4. Slide the control board to the side a bit, then take it out of the cabinet. Inspect the board for any burn marks or signs of damage, then replace if needed.
Step 5. If the control board is in good condition, snap it back onto the side of the cabinet. Plug each wire connector into its appropriate terminal on the control board.
Step 6. Snap the cap back onto the board. Place the top panel on the cabinet, then push it forwards. Secure the panel by applying the three screws at the back using your 1/4 inch nut-driver. Plug the power cord back into the outlet
Top Loaders
To inspect the control board in your Whirlpool top loader washing machine, take the following steps…
Step 1. Ensure that your washing machine is disconnected from the electrical outlet before starting this procedure in order to prevent electrocution.
Step 2. Using a 1/4 inch nut-driver, take out the bolts at the back of the machine securing the control panel.
Step 3. Lift the control panel off the cabinet, then unplug the wire connector from the control board.
Step 4. Pull the air pressure tube off the port on the control board. Note the positioning of the connectors attached to the control board, then unplug each one.
Step 5. Pull the control board wires out of the retainers. Using your nut-driver, take out the bolt holding the control board to the top of the cabinet.
Step 6. Carefully inspect the control board for burn marks or other signs of damage. If the board is damaged, you’ll need to purchase a new one.
Step 7. If you’ve determined that the control board is in good condition, remount it on top of the cabinet, then tighten the screws to secure it.
Step 8. Plug the air pressure tube back into the port on the board. Snap the control board wires back into the retainers, then plug each connector into its appropriate terminal.
Step 9. Plug the control panel’s connector back into the control board. Snap the panel back onto the cabinet, then tighten the screws at the back using your nut-driver. Plug the power cord back into the outlet.
Electric Dryers
Inspect the control board in your Whirlpool electric dryer with the following steps…
Step 1. Disconnect your washing machine from the electrical outlet before starting this procedure in order to prevent electrical damage.
Step 2. Using a 1/4 inch nut-driver, loosen the screws at the back of the machine securing the top panel. Slide the panel backwards, then lift it off the machine.
Step 3. Note the positioning of the connectors attached to the control board, then disconnect each one.
Step 4. Loosen the screws holding the control board to the mounting bracket. Carefully inspect the board for any burn marks or signs of damage. If you notice any damage to the board, you’ll need to replace it.
Step 5. If the control board is in good condition, remount it on the support bracket, then tighten the bolt using your nut-driver.
Step 6. Plug the wire connectors into the appropriate terminals into the appropriate terminals on the control board.
Step 7. Remount the top panel on the cabinet, then secure it by applying the bolts at the back. Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.

2. Door Isn’t Locked
