Step 19. Lift the cabinet and lower it onto the machine. Push the retaining clips into the slots on the cabinet using a flat-blade screwdriver.

Step 20. Plug the lid switch wire connector back in. Lower the control panel and snap it into place. Secure the control panel by tightening the Philips screws.

Step 21. Snap the end caps onto the control panel. Plug your washing machine into the outlet, then try running a cycle to make sure that the leakage has stopped.

Front Loaders

To replace the outer tub in your front loader Kenmore washing machine, follow the steps below…

Step 1. In order to prevent electrocution and water leakage, make sure to disconnect your washing machine from the outlet and turn the water faucets off before starting this repair.

Step 2. Go to the back of your washing machine, then take out the screws securing the rear panel using a Philips screwdriver. Lift the panel off the cabinet and set it aside.

Step 3. Using a 17mm socket wrench, loosen the bolt holding the rotor to the back of the tub. Carefully pry the rotor assembly off the back of the tub.

Step 4. With your Philips screwdriver, loosen the bolts holding the wire harness retaining bracket to the back of the tub.

Step 5. Loosen the bolts holding the stator to the back of the tub using a 10mm socket wrench. Lift the stator off the tub.

Step 6. Disconnect the wire harnesses attached to the stator (make sure to take note of where each plug goes). Set the stator aside.

Step 7. Place a 12mm wrench on the pointed end of the rear shock absorber’s upper mounting pin. Pull the pin out of the shock absorber using a pair of pliers. Detach the shock absorber from the tub, then push it aside.

Step 8. Pull the air pressure tube off the port at the back of the tub. Using your Philips screwdriver, loosen the bolts at the back of the machine securing the top panel.

Step 9. Slide the top panel backwards about an inch or so, then lift it off the cabinet. Use your Philips screwdriver to loosen the two screws holding the steam generator to the support bracket. Slide the generator back a bit.

Step 10. Use your screwdriver to take out the nuts on each end of the support bracket. Push the support bracket off the cabinet, then push the steam generator out of place.

Step 11. Slide the soap tray out of the housing, then press the tab inside to release it completely. Set the detergent tray aside.

Step 12. With your Philips screwdriver, loosen the two screws next to the dispenser opening on the control panel.

Step 13. Use your screwdriver to take out the bolts at the back of the control panel. Pry the control panel off the front of the machine, then set it on top of the cabinet.

Step 14. Pry the pump filter access panel open. Pull the emergency drain hose out of the retainer.

Step 15. With your Philips screwdriver, loosen the nuts holding the pump filter housing to the cabinet. Pull the housing out of the cabinet and set it aside.

Step 16. Take out the single Philips screw at the bottom of the front panel. Open your washing machine’s door.

Step 17. Wedge a flat-blade screwdriver underneath the retaining band around the door seal. Work the screwdriver around until the wire pops off (take care not to damage the door boot seal).

Step 18. Peel the door boot seal off the front panel. Reach into the machine behind the front panel, then disconnect the door switch wire harness.

Step 19. Use your Philips to loosen the six screws at the top of the front panel. Carefully lift the entire front panel off the cabinet, then set it aside.

Step 20. Place a container underneath the emergency drain tube. Pull the cap off the tube, then let any water stuck in the machine drain out.

Step 21. Once all the water has drained out of the machine, put the hose’s cap back on. Reach underneath the tub, then use pliers to release the clamp holding the sump hose to the bottom of the tub.

Step 22. Pull the sump hose off the tub (some water may spill out, so ensure that you keep a rag nearby).

Step 23. Note the positioning of the wires attached to the heating element at the bottom of the tub, then disconnect each one.

Step 24. Loosen the bolt holding the grounding wire to the heating element using a 10mm socket wrench.

Step 25. Disconnect the wire harness from the thermistor beside the heating element.

Step 26. Use your pliers to release the clamps holding the tubes to the ports at the top of the door boot seal. Pull each tube off the door boot seal (ensure that you note where each tube goes).

Step 27. Use wire cutters to cut the zip-tie holding the light assembly to the port on the door boot seal. Pull the light assembly off the door boot seal.

Step 28. With a Philips screwdriver, loosen the bolt on the screw-clamp holding the dispenser hose to the port at the top of the drum. Detach the hose from the tub.

Step 29. Loosen the screw-clamp holding the vent hose to the port at the top of the tub. Disconnect the hose from the machine.

Step 30. Go to the front of your machine. Using a 10mm socket wrench, take out the bolts holding the lower and upper weights to the front of the drum. Carefully lift each weight off the tub and set it aside.

Step 31. Pus your 12mm wrench onto the pointed end of the upper mounting pin of one of the front shock absorbers. Pull the pin out of the mount, then set it aside. Repeat this process with the second front shock absorber.

Step 32. Pull each of the shock absorbers out of the mounts at the bottom of the tub. Using a flat-blade screwdriver, pry out the retainers holding the suspension springs to the cabinet.

Step 33. Loop some rope underneath one of the suspension springs. Using the rope, lift the suspension spring and unhook it from the cabinet. Carefully lower the tub. Repeat this process with the second suspension spring.

Step 34. Note the positioning of the wires attached to the control panel, then disconnect each one. Lift the control panel off the cabinet and set it aside.

Step 35. Use your wire cutters to cut the zip-tie holding the circulation hose to the front of the cabinet.

Step 36. Using your Philips screwdriver, loosen the bolts holding the control panel’s mounting bracket to the front of the cabinet. Take the bracket off the cabinet and set it aside.

Step 37. Carefully pull the tub assembly out of the cabinet. Turn the tub assembly for it faces upwards. Set the tub assembly on two supports.

Step 38. Using a 10mm socket wrench, loosen the bolt holding the heating element to the tub. Slide the element out of the tub, then set it aside.

Step 39. Pull the thermistor out of the slot on the tub assembly. Using your 10mm socket wrench, loosen the bolts holding the two halves of the outer tub together.

Step 40. Lift the front half of the outer tub off the assembly and set it aside. Pull the inner tub out of the rear half of the outer tub, then set it aside.

Step 41. Take your new tub assembly out of its packaging. Place the rear half of the new outer tub on the supports. Lower the inner tub into the rear half of the new outer tub.

Step 42. Place the new front half of the outer tub on the tub assembly. Secure the two halves of the drum by applying the 10mm bolts.

Step 43. Slide the heating element into the housing on the new tub assembly. Secure the heating element by applying the 10mm bolt. Push the thermistor into the slot on the tub.

Step 44. Carefully attach the two suspension springs to the new outer tub. Lift the tub assembly and carefully guide it into the cabinet.

Step 45. Mount the control panel support bracket onto the front of the cabinet, then apply the screws using your Philips screwdriver.

Step 46. Pass the control panel’s wires through the opening on the mounting bracket. Plug each connector to its appropriate terminal.

Step 47. Secure the circulation hose to the cabinet using a zip-tie. Carefully lift each of the two suspension springs, then attach them to the slots on the cabinet. Snap the spring retainers back on the cabinet.

Step 48. Reach underneath the tub, then push the two front shock absorbers into the mounts at the bottom of the tub. Push the two upper mounting pins into the shock absobers.

Step 49. Go to the back of the machine, then reconnect the rear shock absorber. Mount the two weights onto the front of the drum. Secure each weight by applying the 10mm bolts.

Step 50. Reattach the light assembly to the port at the top of the door boot seal, then secure it using a zip-tie.

Step 51. Connect each of the little tubes to their corresponding ports on the door boot seal. Secure the tubes by sliding the retaining clamps into place with pliers.

Step 52. Reconnect the wire harness to the thermistor at the lower front of the tub. Plug each connector into its appropriate terminal on the heating element. Place the grounding wire on the heating element, then apply the 10mm bolt to secure it.

Step 53. Connect the sump hose to the port at the bottom of the tub. Using pliers, slide the retaining clamp into place.

Step 54. Attach the air pressure tube to the port at the lower rear of the outer tub. Plug the wire harnesses into the appropriate terminals on the stator.

Step 55. Place the stator at the back of the tub, then secure it by tightening the 10mm bolts. Put the stator wire harness retainer on the tub, then tighten the Philips screw.

Step 56. Mount the rotor on the stator. If available, apply some blue thread-locker fluid to the rotor’s bolt. Apply the bolt to the rotor using a 17mm socket wrench.

Step 57. Snap the rear panel onto the cabinet, then apply the screws using a Philips screwdriver.

Step 58. Lift the front panel and carefully mount it on the cabinet. Apply the six screws at the top of the front panel using a Philips screwdriver.

Step 59. Tighten the single screw at the bottom of the front panel. Put the pump filter housing back in place, then tighten the screws.

Step 60. Secure the emergency drain hose in the retainers, then close the pump filter access panel.

Step 61. Open your washing machine’s door. Reach into the machine behind the front panel, then reconnect the wire harness to the door switch assembly.

Step 62. Refit the door boot seal around the front panel. Using a flat-blade screwdriver, carefully fit the retaining wire around the door boot seal.

Step 63. Reconnect the dispenser’s hose to the port at the top of the drum. Secure the connection by tightening the screw-clamp.

Step 64. Reattach the vent hose to the port on the drum, then secure it using the retaining clamp.

Step 65. Snap the control panel onto the front of the cabinet, then apply the screws next to the dispenser opening using a Philips screwdriver. Apply the screw behind the control panel.

Step 66. Remount the steam generator on the cabinet, then hook it onto the support bracket. Secure the support bracket to the cabinet by applying the Philips screws.

Step 67. Apply the nuts to secure the steam generator to the bracket. Slide the detergent tray into the dispenser.

Step 68. Mount the top panel on the cabinet, then use your Philips screwdriver to apply the bolts at the back.

Step 69. Reconnect your appliance to the power outlet, then turn the water supply faucets on. To ensure that the leakage has stopped, try running a cycle.

3. Loose Sump Hose
